It's another thread connected to colonial marines, but that isn't really the subject.

Now, I like aliens colonial marines, but the more I hear about people saying it's bad, the more I think that I've gone mad, causing me not to see half the problems, and not to care about the other half.

It got me thinking though, is it possible to like bad games in the same way that you might like "street fighter the movie" or "the room"? I wouldn't have thought so before this. Perfectly possible to like flawed games, dead island still has plenty of fans despite its many, many problems. But actual bad games in the same vein as what colonial marines supposedly is? It should be impossible. With a bad movie, you just sit back and let it wash over you, a bad game requires your effort, and thus, there should be a point where you stop playing because it isn't worth that effort.

And yet, here I am, wondering whether to play bioshock or colonial marines tonight as if they had equal quality, even though I downright know they don't.

So, can you like a bad game? Do you like a bad game?

It's harder to like bad games than other bad media, because other media aren't interactive. If a film is bad you can easily carry on watching it, but if a game has horrible, broken gameplay then it can be much harder to persevere, especially since games require more time investment.

depends what you think is bad if you just think its poorly constructed, poorly written has bad gameplay and of overall is poor quality yeah you can still like it maybe because you like a certain character or a few nice touches in their even though you know the game is really not that well crafted overall.

If you think bad as in total bad then no you cant enjoy it thats why you think its bad, so bad in some ways yes you can bad in every way no you cant if you think you can then its just because you dont think the game is bad in every way.

I got some enjoyment out of Magic the Gathering Battlemage and that is atrocious the only reason I enjoyed it a bit was because its Magic on the PSX even if it didnt play like a game of magic.

I got some enjoyment out of Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days.

Combat had an agreeably frantic feel to it and I actually liked the ugly visual style that was made to look like it was recorded on a hand camera.

That said, story was shite and I got bored long before finishing the game, which only lasts five hours or so.

Well, when "bad" gets slapped on titles like Mass Effect 3 or Dragon Age II, yes, I think it's perfectly possible to enjoy "bad" games.

Some games are so insanely broken that they go right past being frustrating into being hilarious. Big Rigs: Over The Road Racing, for example. Infinite reverse acceleration that will send you straight off the map into an empty void, and then being able to instantly go back to a full stop just by releasing the button? It's good for a laugh, at least.

I suppose it depends on what aspect of the title is explicitly "bad". If the story is bad, then the gameplay could still conceivably carry it on the virtue of just being fun to play. If the gameplay is bad, then it takes one hell of a story to carry it, and there's a decent chance you'd never play it again after finishing it once.

Mortal Kombat vs DC.

Gets Flak for not being tournament balanced.
Gets Flak for not having much content
Gets Flak for not being as Violent as previous MKs.

I still enjoyed it.

Sure it is. If theres something you really like in the game *even if its broken in other areas* you can still enjoy it.

Some Bad games i have enjoyed:

- Kane and lynch 1/2 : Despite the characters being utter bastards the game nailed the feel of chaotic urban gang shootouts, very reminisant of the film "heat".

-Anarchy reigns: Maybe not bad but certainly was considered average by most of the press. Fun brawling game.

-Sniper elite V2: Again not bad, but certainly average. Had broken stealth mechanics but absolutly nailed the sniping bit, which is what it was all about.

-Tenchu Z: What can i say, the novelty of being a ninja kept me playing for a while.

That said i never rush out to buy these games release day. I usually wait until they are half price or more off, or budget priced on release. Helps lessen the blow when i take a gamble you see :) If i dont enjoy the game, at least i didnt blow a whole load of money.
