So according to the New York Times a judge just ordered Limewire to disable all"?searching, downloading, uploading, file trading and/or file distribution functionality? of the company?s file-sharing software."

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/10/27/technology/27limewire.html?_r=1

My question is how exactly is this supposed to stop the people who already have the software from continuing to use it? Isn't the whole thing person to person? Or am I not understanding how it works?

Also who the hell still uses Limewire?

Haha um me, and do you know any different programs I can use to get my music?
Might I suggest purchasing it?

OT: I'm surprised they haven't taken them down already. I mean, how long has it been around?...

Wow. I really didn't expect anyone on this site to even use Limewire. Enjoy your viruses and shitty quality.

But yeah, this will change nothing. It's funny how people like this judge fail to understand the internet.

Edit your post. Quickly. The admins get pissed about even the mention of pirating, and usually suspend people who admit to doing it.

OT: In the ashes of Limewire will rise a new distribition site.

Actually, it already happened.

They're like hyper-honorable velociraptors. They are.

OT: I used the program a loooooong time ago. Wasn't a fan.
Couldn't care less really, but it's an interesting tidbit to know about.

Since before 2003 I think. It almost seems so futile fighting the whole e crimes and filesharing thing. By the time you've gotten all the court cases settled, and laws passed. People have already moved on to the next shiny new filesharing thing.

Napster got shut down people moved to P2P. P2P sites got shut down people moved to torrents. Even torrents are starting to become obsolete since there's ways to pull videos and mp3's off of video streaming sites and tube sites like youtube. Outside of shutting the internet down completely there's not really much you can do. And even if you could do that people would still probably find an alternative.

There are other places to get porn (and music) virus free. I am just saying...
Maybe I like the danger element of the virus or the possibility it could be a Justin Bieber song.

Good riddance. Sure, it won't stop the pirates, but it may slow some down, hopefully. At least it will slow down the really stupid ones who don't know what else to use.

Really? Hmm, there go my days of international music and obscure and ancient video games...I pretty much never used it for anything I could obtain legally in the US, but it's still a bit sad to see it go.
