Sooo...am I the only person who thinks this movie was terrible?
Its currently running at 91% on RT, 89% user reviews and I just don't understand it.
When I went to see it, 7 people walked out during the movie...I was almost one of them.
Lincoln is a complete and total bore. It has nothing to do with Lincoln's life or really even his death. The movie could have been called "13th Amendment", barely included Lincoln at all...and the movie doesn't even require a re-write, just removal of maybe a few already dull and uninteresting scenes between Abe and his wife...or Abe and his son, which do very little to move the plot along or add much worthwhile to the overall arch of the story. Its just a movie about a bill being passed through the house where the vote is close...yeah, its an Amendment which ended slavery in America, but its not dramatic or tense to slowly reveal the results of a vote that happened over 100 years ago. I'm not sitting on the edge of my seat as they call out their yes and no's.
The way the movie ends is the biggest spit on the grave in the film. Lincoln's death is treated with about as much weight as the passing of the family pet. They don't even go into the events of his death at all...just a "gotcha" moment in another theater, where the host comes out and tells everyone that Lincoln was shot...in ANOTHER theater. How incredibly lame.
Please tell me I'm not the only person who hated this movie. I'd also like to read some reasonable defenses for this movie as actually being good, because I didn't see it, maybe it was cause I was fighting myself to stay awake...but I didn't see it.
Captcha - lame duck - Okay, thats weird...lame duck congress anyone?
