I was just wondering how many people around here are running linux at the moment?
And what distro/version are you using?

I am on Ubuntu 10.04 (has it been released properly yet or am I still running a beta?)

Also share your feelings on the system, why did you choose your distro and what do you think of it now?

Linux? What's that?

I kid, I kid.

Well my feelings on the system are, well quite frankly uneducated.
I've never seen a linux and all i know is that's its some sort of thing you put on your computer...
Also, I know no one who uses it, so um..yeah...

When I get a net book or if I ever got a note book I would get Linux. No point using it on my main pc I play a lot of PC games so there is just no hope of me using Linux.
I get around this problem by having 2 hard drives and dualbooting linux, choosing which ever I want when I boot the computer up

What netbook are you looking to get, I have a Samsung NC10 which I am very happy with, the battery life is incredible compared to some I have seen

Well it is a whole operating system, like Windows Vista or 7, just free and a bit different.

I dual-boot. Windows 7 and Ubuntu 9.10. I chose it because that was the current release when I got my new computer. I use it most often when I'm not working.

I primarily use Windows 7, as I am a PC gaming nerd. If a majority of games started offering Linux support though, I'd be using either Mandreva or Arch-Linux that same day.

What do you think of Ubuntu in comparison to Windows?

Personally I like getting the new system every 6 months for free, there is no way I am spending that much money on Windows 7, the only way I will get 7 is when I buy a new computer and it is pre-installed.

Usually I only use Ubuntu when I want to get something quickly from the internet as it boots up so much quicker and I have no start-up programs (like no anti-virus)

Kind of a tricky question. Windows 7 has been outstanding for me, and the more I utilized some of the various features, the less I like Windows XP.

On the other hand, Ubuntu does boot up a tiny bit faster, and I enjoy being able to research things without having to worry about malware; though my Windows setup is pretty secure.

I prefer Photoshop to GIMP hands-down, so that's one of the small handful of reasons I still use Windows.

In terms of ease of use, the more recent releases of Ubuntu seem to better support my ISP's hardware. (It was fun on a prior version having to translate the MAC address to Hex.)

I enjoy Flash games, so that's another nudge more towards Windows. The Linux Flash player is... not impressive.

I'm not saying I dislike Ubuntu by any means, more so that MS has finally put out a really solid OS. My wife, on the other hand, runs Vista and Ubuntu, and she spends more time in Ubuntu by far.

I've got an EeePC 1008HA that pretty much exclusively runs Ubuntu 9.10 Netbook Remix (although I'll probably be dual-booting with Win7 next semester), and a 15" laptop that dual-boots Kubuntu 9.10 and Windows 7.

For the netbook, UNR was a no-brainer. Much faster than Win7, the Clutter interface really makes effective use of the small netbook screen (something which Win7 has trouble with, due to it's sometimes excessive use of whitespace), and it's nice collection of apps in the Debian repositories makes installing pretty much anything I need a breeze. Kubuntu I'm not so much of a fan of. While KDE looks amazing, has a lot of options, and does some things better than GNOME, it also has a LOT of options, so a) stuff is hard to find, and b) it's not always obvious what something does. All in all, I much prefer GNOME to KDE, at least on the simplicity side.

I completely agree with this, I had Kubuntu on my computer for a while and it looked great and I tried so hard to like it but GNOME just seems to suit me better, I like the simplicity of it in that you have to basically build up the system yourself, KDE seems too sterile.

I use that laptop more than you do. I dusted the dust off it!

Yep using quite a few distro's at the moment:

Fedora 11
Fedora 12
Arch Linux
Kubuntu 9.10

Damn I love linux, only use windows for my gaming needs (most of the games I play don't run properly with wine).
