This whole moderating thing is BS.
The only level that could really amount to a lawsuit is a Muppet Movie level because that's the only intellectual property it would be infringing on/confusing people about.

Anyone who confuses the God of War LBP level with God of War either never played god of war or is a complete moron.

Anyway, this whole thing has put a bunch of Little Big projects I was working on on-hold:

No More Sackboys: the easiest one to make, it's pretty much a blank level with a few windows and a boss at the end but before you fight him, you have to drag a bunch of coconuts onto a platform.

Sacky the Vampire Slayer: very dark and gothic but best appreciated with a vagina.

Scary/Disaster/Epic Movie-the game: Another easy plain level with nothing to make you think, just pics of recent big budget movies in the background.

Lost...Big Planet: Just all the stuff I've collected thrown together in no particular order.

Any projects you have on hold?

I have a Shadow Moses Island level in the works right now, and I have to say I'm proud of it so far.

It would suck various amounts of ass if it was deleted .-.

I don't understand how you can make a themed level without actually infringing copyright. Do we have to put credits at the end of our levels now?

Hey, still tons of innovation everywhere. I'm just pissed my favourite level was deleted.

Parody and Fair Use laws I'd assume, as I mentioned in the other thread about this exact same topic. I'm not a lawyer though and I'm not sure how much that could apply to LBP levels. I'd certainly put them under "parody" as they are either 4. any humorous, satirical, or burlesque imitation, as of a person, event, etc. or, 6. a poor or feeble imitation or semblance; travesty: [http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/parody]

They obviously aren't amounting to the originals, therefore meaning they are a poor or feeble imitation. Not to say the levels themselves are poor in quality, they might be quite fun to play.

I would recommend going to nintendo and seeing how they were allowed to have Shadow Moses Island in Smash Bros. Probably hefty royalties. Apparently even if they gave you a Solid Snake Sack (on the way but pricy) and all the building blocks for a SM Island, it would still be deleted like the God of War levels were; glad I didn't do that gameslop preorder.

@ Amnestic-
Thank you, that's exactly my point. I could see this being fair if people were charging money or trying to make replacements of SMB or God of War but you can't in LBP: it's cool but not THAT sophisticated.

Saturday Night Live, webcomics, and even Zero Punctuation wouldn't exist if they had to pay royalties for every parody they came up with.

I'm still going to publish my No More Sackboys level; as it only took about 15 mins to make and I can make a new one in less time if they delete it. I'll just warn you now; it's a very boring and tedious statement piece; like No More Heroes.
My other works are staying on my moon; I spent way too much time on them.

Yeah, I'd agree this is bullcrap. I mean, it's one thing to illegally distribute these games or movies (Yeah, I'm against piracy, what of it?), but these parodies and levels aren't making money (Are they? I don't have the game. I figured they were free) and are there just as entertainment for existing fans.

If anything, these levels are free advertising. Someone could download a God of War level, or a Batman level, or some other themed level, really enjoy it, and that may pique their interest in the real thing.

People need to lighten up.

First....world war?

I don't know. I guess it's like all the threads, that have been created about LittleBigPlanet so far, also know as "OMG! Thai d'l3td mai levelzzz!"

Seriously, where did the World War I come from? Maybe I missed something from the OP's post, but still.

Sorry I should've clarified: yes the only thing you have to pay for is the game disc, all the user made levels are free.
I didn't think of it as free advertising and think that yes, perhaps some games don't want to be endorsed by LBP (same reason they put gaffer tape over brand names on tv sometimes)but they would probably have to go out and sue every gamer who made a parody level.

The ridiculous thing is that THEY provided the God of War materials to build with. Did they really intend for nobody to use them?

It's like on the Simpson's last week when Maggie is in a daycare that has Krusty pictures all over. Then Krusty shows up and has a bunch of goons sandblast his image from the walls: just mean and unnecessary.

Just how good is the level creator in LBP? It must be absolutely awesome if it is good enough to start copyright controversy.

It is absolutely awesome, for making LBP levels.
Not God of War, SMB, or Failure to Launch levels but for making LBP levels; none of which could be mistaken for the basis'. Even the SMB levels (the closest thing to LBP) can't be confused with the original.

Can't we start some sort of campaign to get Sony to sort this out. Like getting them remove a song took a week. Making a game do what they said you could do can't really take that long.

This reeks of a South Park piss take.

I'm finding the game pretty fun. I'm going to miss the SAW level though.

I read on 1up creators should save a copy of their level on their moon before putting it on line and it can be reposted.

So only ever put a copy of a level online. No worries.

Oh it is, but the thing that pisses me off the most is that fact that people have given credit for there inspiration and I would think that people have better things to do then go online and check up on gamers.

Sorry to scare you. I'm not really making a Disaster Movie level. I was just trying to think of a level that nobody would want to play based on a movie nobody wanted to watch.

The No More Heroes level is something that I'm actually working on and I hope that its even worse than it sounds. I hope to make it as tedious, vapid, and unrewarding as No More Heroes itself. But like Suda51 I'm just doing it as a statement; but this one's free.
as I said before:

Guess why there's warning on hair dryer about not using them in the shower.
Sony is just protecting their ass.

Just make new stuff that don't copy other things. Use your imagination dammit!

Seriously, if you ever publish that, you need to let me know because I'm dying to play it.

I was playing a bit of LBP yesterday and I was surprised at how many 'themed' levels were still up.
The Mirror's Edge one was still there, as well as a Ninja Warrior level and Saw and Rambo levels, both featuring a picture from their respective movies. There was also a level that's pretty much just Guns 'N' Roses; Sweet Child Of Mine.
I was expecting to see an absence of them.
Hell, I also discovered a great Tetris level that the most blatant rip-off I've seen so far, 30,000 people had played it before me so it makes me wonder how Sony are picking and choosing what to remove from public view.

Look, we can argue whether or not everyone's intent was parody, because it doesn't matter. Sony reserving the right to sell user-created content (and NOT passing the profits onto you) has thrown the parody argument out the window.

Also I have never seen a more biased Ted Baxterian attempt to get attention than that NMSB idea, which isn't even good as a statement piece. Seriously, what's the connection there? Are you fighting pretention with misguided pretention? Inquiring minds wish to know.

In conclusion, "fun will overcome"*

*as long as it's not copyright law.
