So yesterday I got to perform at the biggest theatre in my town in front of an audience of around 300 people, and I had the time of my life. Strangely enough, I also managed to remain calm and play my music without fucking up, and so the idea for this thread came to mind:

To you, performing Escapists, how do you feel when you go on stage?

I feel like I'm in a dream. Because I am. I don't play an instrument.

I've only ever played in front of a large audience once - I was scared shitless, but I ended up performing my song pretty well. I found that my nerves were particularly bad at the beginning, but I managed to mellow out somewhat and got into a sort of groove which carried me through the rest of the song.

That being said, I probably wouldn't want to do that again. Playing alone in my bedroom is far more relaxing.

My hands and feet start shaking terribly.

And when you play the drums, that is a very bad thing.

The only time I've ever really been nervous was when I had to play a euphonium solo (my weakest instrament) that I had only been given a week before. Other then that I'm normally ok because I'm confident enough in my ability and 1/2 the time the audience wouldn't be able to tell if you made a mistake.

Surprisingly enough, the time I was most relaxed was when I and 2 others were performing the singing part for a piece the orchestra I'm in were playing and I was singing the female lead Falsetto wearing a stupid pink hat (to match my beard) in from of about 500 people. Got a standing ovation for that though.

My most nervous moment was playing a Chopin Nocturne in front of a paying audience of around 200-300 people. Went well, and once I started the nerves faded, and I enjoyed myself. Also played an encore (a mazurka), but by that stage was well into the swing of it, and I was untroubled by nerves
