I've never been DM, but whenever I play I always make up spells and abilities for my character. "Now that Mr. Pimptastic is a level 10 Pimpaladin, he gains the passive ability Misogyny, which gives him +2 speech when speaking to female characters of a lower level, and -5 speech when speaking to female characters of a higher level."

Easiest Spot in a while, only one I can think of that was easier was when it was all by itself in the middle of an empty room

Sounds like the players screwed up his previously established plans. Of course, he should have known better than to expect dedicated gamers to waste time looting a body.

Eeeeh. Can't agree that I've found DM'ing to be particularly hard. Prepare ahead and have a good imagination. Anticipate players moves by thinking of the most stupid shit they could ever do. Since they nearly always will. Most importantly, have fun!

If you do get stuck in Beej's situation, well you gotta be good at bullshitting. My first major story as a DM was about 60% made up on the spot, with 90% of dialogue ad-libbed. And they freaking loved it!

Hot Tip for you: Make up a setting, characters (with motivations and personalities) and a general idea of the story and the goal of it. Then just let it play out. Prepare some pitfalls and traps ahead to spring when it's appropriate.

Decent vid, didn't really laugh at it as I usually do this time come Mondays but no one has a perfect track record. Keep going LRR, I await next Mondays video with great anticipation!

Ye I didn't quite get that plot point, because I originally thought he was going to make up a contrived way in each looting the body would make sense.

However lets be real here this show was unrealistic to the point of unwatchable, I mean what party would not loot a boss, let alone not ask for xp, that's just silly.

Dire weevils. I'm not running a game now and haven't for a dog's age but when I do dire weevils are so in. As is the line, "They've got a bite on 'em." That might do for a sole descriptor, really.

Quite liked this vid, it did a great job capturing how it feels when scrabbling for plot as a GM for a bunch of disinterested and unimpressed players. While there are ways to cope, any GM whose consistently got players right where s/he wants them must be railroading something awful. Also thought it worked from the players perspective, describing the relative amounts of suspension of disbelief.

Man, I miss gm-ing.

Oh man. I do this all the time. Its not my fault though. My players never do the things I have prepared for them to do.

Good stuff!

I see the writing credit for this was to Kathleen. Was Beej ad libbing any of his lines, or is he just a good enough actor that he sounded like he was, even when he wasn't? :)

Loot I can understand, but exp happens at the end of a session and/or campaign according the the rules.

Ah good ol looking around the room. That's how I came up with the town Aquarius. My eyes found an Aquarium.

Fun fact, there has been an Aquarius in every campaign with ever growing numerals behind it.

I think we are up to Aquarius 18.

I have seen nothing here, that wasn't a normal D&D run for my old group!
So ... ot that funny ... ok, hell, it was funny all the time! Finally we have realism here!

Poor Beej

First rule of being a GM: Never let them see you sweat
Second rule of being a GM: Waffle like you mean it. As far as the players are concerned everything that happens, you'd planned in advance!
Third rule of being a GM: Always have a list of names on hand as players always want a name.

I felt like the GM did not expect them to kill his big bad, or ever get this far, so he had no idea what to do next // And yes I was wondering why he wanted them to loot the body? Was it that he had a trap set or he needed more time to think of what happens next? I'm going to go with both

I have a rule against making villains that I'm not able to kill off for precisely this reason. Nothing's worse than having to engage in a battle of wits and rule-bending to rescue your box text from the party.

But them leaving the body unlooted seems odd. Most gamers either go through it's pockets immediately or (if they're from the first 2 editions) very carefully examine the body for save vs. death traps, then go through it's pockets.
