Ok guys... Here we go:

James: Make sure your lens is clean. Don't overexpose in video; this is 4:2:0, not RAW. Use a superflat picture profile instead. Get a steadicam, or just bunker down with a tripod and a telephoto lens. And that reflection on Paul is just incredibly distracting.

Ben: Stop shaking the boompole. I can hear it. And something tells me you didn't use the H4N for this...

Maybe you had a small crew or limited time for re-shoots or whatever, but these things still bug me endlessly. It significantly detracts from my overall enjoyment of what should have been the highlight of my monday.
Actually, it's 4:2:2, and that has to do with aspect ratio, not exposure. And as far as the exposure goes, it wasn't that bad. And it was shot flat, it just wasn't properly color corrected.

And the shaking of the camera was not distracting, it actually helps sell the realism that we're actually there with Paul.

I will give you the bit about the boom, that was annoying but that's a problem we have even in big-budget productions.

Overall it was a good bit. Just let it go and enjoy the delivery.

Yay, another Nigel episode. I love these things so much! Also, I just had to pause to go find out what the hell Phlogiston is. Tangential learning FTW!

The 5D is 4:2:0, so there is no reason the 60D should be 4:2:2. And I'm talking about chroma subsampling, in reference to the latitude of the H.264 codec compared to a RAW codec (like the one you get from a a RED camera). I don't know what you're on about with the aspect ratio stuff.
As for flat: http://eugenia.queru.com/2010/01/25/flatting-the-flat-look/. You should get about 9 or 10 stops with no tweaking, and this looks more like 6-7. The new Technicolor Profile should get you even more.
The point is that the whites are clipping badly. Very badly. Underexpose and shoot at multiples of 160ISO = problem solved.

It's probably just my geekery on technicalities that makes this unusually hard for me to watch. I cringe when I watch home videos or listen to bad recordings of music, and this video was just unusually nerve-wracking for me.

I Totally don't know what you just said :S
LRR video = highlight of mondays
This specific video has below-average technical quality (for LRR)
Mondays not as awesome as they're supposed to be...

Curse you Nigel Fitzgerald Brouwer! Curse you and your honest face!

This will take years of trust management therapy and re-education to forgive and erase.

Curse yooouuuuu....

I'm certainly not a an audiophile, but even so the bumping and scratching from the mic was annoying as heck. Otherwise, funny vid.

Lol. Ah, the curse of technical knowledge.

I watched this and didn't give it much thought at all (though I did notice some distracting flares at some points.)

Still, I guess it's a case of the more you know...

I can't really play a computer game without noticing technical things about it. For instance, how texture filtering is being done. Shadow generation, lighting setups... Billboard textures in the distance. Transparency effects, and so on.
Oh, not to mention draw distances, and when sub-obtimal use is being made of hardware.

Knowing how this stuff works and fits together can really distract you from simply enjoying the experience itself...

The only way we can hope to bring back dragons from the brink of extinction is to learn how to properly dispose of those six-pack holders.
The best way is to burn them all. Which is what the dragons could have done. Wow. Dragons where idiots. Anyway funny episode as always, look forward to the next.

I love whole story. It's one of my favorite video ideas you guys had. I really hope you do more of these in the future (not a whole series like Checkpoint or Feed dump) but defiantly include them more into the rotation of LRR videos

This is one of the best 'series' (I think I can call it that, since there's more than one of them now) LRR has come up with. Seriously top-notch writing, Paul!

I want to turn one of these in for a history project one day when I stop caring about my grade and/or have ridiculous amounts of extra credit
