With the exception of global warming, what is the most pressing environmental concern in your community? I am curious as to what other issues folks are concerned about. I only post this because I am concerned that global warming is stomping on other environmental issues that need attention as well, such as ground water contamination, poor land use applications, among a long list of many other issues. Thanks!

Here in southern Florida the contamination and polution of watershed and ground water are pretty big deals, not to mention the shrinking everglades. Mass urbanization toward the center of the state here is o the rise, and we as a whole have no idea what the effects will be on the environment or wildlife. Plus hurricanes and brush fires, can't forget those damn annual things.
Here in Melbourne we had a recent environmental study on the Yarra River confirm what most people had already suspected - that the fish in there were coked to the gills on a variety of nasty toxins such as lead, and that we really shouldn't be going anywhere near this wonderful brown water source.
I live in a mining town so yeah, mining and more specifically the handling of closed mines to ensure there isn't ground water contamination.
I live on the Texas coast, so it's a a similar situation to the everglades, just not as much of a big deal for us.
The biggest one where I live now is overfishing, but it takes place elsewhere. We have a river here with salmon fishing as a major tourist attraction, and when the salmon migrate, the schools get fished all to hell off the coast, leaving few to return to the river. wildfires in the summer are also a concern.Zac_Dai said:
