Time to share folks. What local stories do you have, be it supernatural or just plain unexplainably weird.

to start off, nearby theres a place called North Head. Rumour is that during the war, the military dug a whole series of tunnels in that peninsula to house ammo and coastal guns. After the war, they buried all the surplus in the tunnels and sealed them off (as you do) and its been lost ever since. So out there, supposedly, are stockpiles of ammunition, weapons and even recon planes up in crates, war relics really.

Im sure there are way cooler stories than this so fire away scapist.

It is said that this coastal town has connection to Lewis Carroll (writer of Alice in Wonderland) because the Liddell famiy who he was inspired from had spend their holiday in the beach resort over here. While there is no evidence that the two had meet over here however part of the book was written in one of the hotels.

Sooo, Robin Hood.

Do I win?
Robin Hood was allegedly buried near where I live and all the street names are to do with the medieval period or the forest.

Maybe not quite what you were looking for, but they do fit the "legend" criteria quite well.

Don't think famous people count as local legends, but okay.

If we're doing that, Patrick Stewart, my usual trump card in threads like these.

As for actual local legends, there's the one about Tom Lee. A black smith who robbed a wagon carrying gold in the village, but got shot in the arse by the guards. He went to a doctor to get the bullets pried out. That night at the bar, he saw the doctor having a conversation with some people, and became paranoid. So he followed him and clubbed him to death and dumped the body in a stretch of river that (having swum in it myself) is unnaturally chilly. We call it the doctor's bath.

The football club near where I live has produced some mediocre football players like Robert Snodgrass and Graham Dorrans, Scottish talent is rare so they're considered to be the dogs bollocks by the locals. But they're actually pretty shit.

EDIT: Thought this thread was about famous locals, it's because Daystar mentioned Robin Hood.

Well, around here one of the main legends is DB Cooper. If you don't know who DB Cooper was, he was a bank robber/hijacker back in the 70's who hijacked a plane and demanded 200,000 and a parachute to release the hostages. After he got that, in the middle of a flight (which only he and the pilots and one flight attendant were on) between Portland Oregon and Seattle, Washington, he jumped out of the plane and parachuted to an unknown fate. Neither he nor the money have ever been found.

Also there is Bigfoot/Sasquatch.
