Hello fellow Escapists. Here in sunny Sunderland, we have a few local legends, like Jimmy Jesus, The Bag Man and my personal favourite, Dave the Rave. All of these people are quite well known in our town centre for being slightly insane.
So, my question to you, is do you have local legends? If so, why are they famous?

Seriously? We have a Dave the Rave here too. We also have a Bill the Sheepslayer. He's quite a fun guy.

I used to live in Suffolk, GRATUITOUS USAGE OF SONGS BY BRITISH GLAM-ROCK OUTFIT THE DARKNESS TIME! (a new idea which I plan to use more frequently in my posts)

Essentially Black Shuck is an anthropomorphic dog that was thought to cause plague. It's also an awesome song.

Where I live now (Norfolk) we have the various origin stories about the Bag Lady (who I recently found in a random internet demotivational poster. She's famous!) but as I'm an immigrant I don't know many horror stories.

Oohh dude, where I go to university in Aberystwyth, we have The Man With A Cat On his Shoulder. He's famous because ha walks around the town going about his day to day stuff, but with a tortoiseshell moggy perched on his shoulder, of it's own free will.

He's pretty awesome, and is actually really nice and not really insane at all, he's just a total legend. He even has his own Facebook page.

Also, we have John Brunt, who was born in my village of Priest Weston, Shropshire, England. He was a Victoria Cross (Britain's highest military medal) winner, and all round war hero.

I live in Manchester. I looked on Wikipedia for the exact area I live in, which is one of them tiny shitholes you often drive past when travelling around England which force you to wonder "who the fuck lives here?", I DO AND IT'S FUCKING DEPRESSING. Anyway, some communist called "Harry Pollitt" was born here, and one of them pricks from Take That, he attended the school that's like 10 seconds away from my house.

London, local legend is Lenny the Tramp. Although when I lived in Carlisle there was a midget who used to ride a bike up and down the main drinking street, and randomly flip off it in the middle of the road on a saturday night. He was called eric. There's a youtube video somewhere of drunks kidnapping eric and locking him in a bin

EDIT: We can use famous people?? Well, Dick Turpin was from around here, and I went to school with a page 3 girl who was on top gear the other week, and the dudes from Bloc Party. Alan Davies from Jonathon Creek is from down the road, and Rod Stewart lives about 5 mins away, and... hell, I live in London, there are quite a few. Don't forget Iron Maiden etc

Well there's Duvet Dave, a hobo who had a duvet (figures, right). I say had because some chavs came and dumped him in a river and nobody's seen him since.

Here's a few and they're all true...

A kid at the school I attended a couple of years lower than I was arrested for having sex with a horse apparently he used toothpaste to assist himself. As a side note a teaacher at the shcool go suspended or fired for teasing him about it.

Someone I knew at school was arrested recently for looking at child pornography.

Feeder's first ever gig was at a local club, a seedy place where most people in the town had probably shagged someone in the toilets... so I hear. More of a legendary place than person, had some good times there in my younger days.

Obviously we also have the usual old guy with a guitar wondering around type cliches.
