This is just a rant but I've been irriated lately by locked save files. Now, don't get me wrong, I understand that game developers can't abide cheating in the slightest, (made very clear by thier removal of any hint of cheat codes, cheat like rewards for beating the game, and of course the fact that gamesharks can't be used anymore.) And I understand that if someone were to get a completed game save, they wouldn't have to put any actual effort into playing that game.
However, there needs to be some kind of tradeoff. If my PS3 crashes right now, and I suddenly find myself with a wealth of cash to go out and buy another one, half of my games will have to be played all over again. Even my SFIV save, with all characters unlocked and my rediculously low score, would be screwed. This is, needless to say, very irritating.
I can understand not letting someone have another person's save, but not being able to keep our own saves? Especially since it's mostly because of Trophies and Achievements that this has been happening? Seriously, I can't keep my own hard work because someone else might get a "watch the first cutscene" mark on thier profile? To quote my favorite Bleach character,Urahara,"That isn't very nice."
There needs to be some kind of way for a person to identify themselves as the actual person that created that save. Perhaps it can be linked with your online profile, so that if you sign in to the internet, the saves recognize you as the person that made that save file, and you can keep playing. Or, dare I say it, we reintroduce memory cards? They could probably code a special USB stick that would allow only the game data to transfer, and then that stick could load onto another PS3 without any problems. Sure, people could use these "memory cards" to give people access to thier own saves, but gee, we haven't been doing that sine the ps1 era, have we?
It probably wouldn't bother me on a game I've completely beaten, but on those that I never finished, I'd be really irritated if I lost the save I had. Heck, my save on Infamous has the story completed, with no sidequests done so I can go back and have fun whenever I want. That's something I definately would be irritated at losing and would hate to have to do again, at least a little bit. Anyway...er..rant over. I just wanted to get that out of my system.
