After a second night of violence (people generally being pricks) there has been looting in Brixton and The police clashed with 'youths' in Enfield.

Apparently the riots started after Police shot a man, but it has escalated into something more and the violence escalated fast.

And Arson was commited, or to put it another way: 'The fuckers burnt everything in sight, including a building that survived the blitz'
Here's the BBC link:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/

The riots have been described and are 'needless oppertunistic theft and violence'

They'll die down after a bit, although it is indeed worrying that polcie forces are being downsized when crap like this is happening.

Edit: ok looks like things are getting worse, I reckon that the police and fire fighters deserve some sort of honourable distinction for dealing with this.

This is exactly what it is. I was watching the news last night and a lot of locals were saying that - in this close neighbourhood - they had seen numerous people rioting they had never seen before: opportunists. It's pathetic. These two guys that were interviewed had their houses burnt down along with all their possessions!

The riots are ridiculous - they started because a police officer was doing his job. The guy shot at them, so they shot back! So they bloody well should!

It's giving youths a bad name. It's giving Brits a bad name. I hate it. It's actually making me quite angry writing this! And that last picture you posted...that's just upsetting!

Yeah, a friend of mine got caught up in the Saturday ones...luckily he's okay but it sounds bad out there.

That, and I live not far from where yesterdays riots happened...if they keep moving east I'm a bit fucked (I like round the corner from a high street with a police station......)

=/

Understatement much? Did you see the double decker bus that was reduced to barely anything?

I'm just going to post my support for the police.

That is my career of choice and I (possibly naively) have (almost) absolute faith in them to do their abilities with professional standards and to the best of their ability.

Good luck to all the officers out there trying to keep the peace!

To upset you even more about that last picture, it survived the London Blitz. But one night of rioting...

I flung this together quickly.
I'll change it to 'and the fuckers burnt everything in sight.'

Nah alot of people from your neighboring countries watching this aren't totally deluded...

You can find this kind of human scum in every metropolis throughout middle europe, so it could have happenend as well in Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam etc. We are all doing the same homemade mistakes... Maybe your country will learn faster from it then the rest of us...

It's been a long time since riots of this scale. This can't just be about a criminal getting shot, they must be using it as a jumping off point; the climate here is getting worse and worse.
But i do have to say that I praise the police for holding firm in the face of these riots.

Christ it must be scary.
Just bury your good stuff and get a shotgun.
Teach the fuckers some manners.

I think its disgusting behaviour. I am not even going to touch the issue of the police being right or wrong. I don't care. Even if they were wrong, rioting is NOT the right response.

Now, if Cameron were to outlaw computer games and institute a 6pm curfew, then I am all for a good riot or two. Maybe. Course that will never happen.

a funny sidenote, several insurance companies won't probably pay for the damage, here in Germany several companies changed their contractual terms concerning riots and "problem" neighbourhoods during the last years (and it's probably the same in UK). Because unlike the politicans you can be sure that those scammers are actually good at analysing their potential financial risks...

It's needless and isn't actually about the guy who was shot. He was carrying a gun illegally and fired at police, they shot back and killed him, people who refer to him as "a father of 4" should instead refer to him as a man carrying an illegal firearm. As a lot of people have said, these riots are an excuse, nothing more.

Tisk, tisk. Another case of Lizzy II going out of her way to kill her own people. For shame on that dictator, for shame.

I would have supported their case if it wasn't for the riots, the way the police handled the situation could have been better, but at the same time, you don't try to get attention by smashing and burning everything, that't not getting support, that's getting hated. How would they like if angry people retaliated and petrol bombed and smashed up their houses where they came from, burned everything to the ground and mugged them of their possessions?

God I hate London. I've said to many people that if they can, they should get out, and get out soon, because all my childhood things only ever got worse there, and now it's finally escalated to this. I could swear there's a portal to hell somewhere beneath it. That or dragons... There's far too many people far too tightly packed in. Add in too many people looking for too few jobs, with too low welfare compared to too high costs of living, the eventually outcome will always be "every man for himself".

It's what happens when nobody listens. When the government ignores it's people. In the best case, there's peaceful protests, but in the worst cases, people just get too angry to even go for the targets that deserve it, just smashing stuff up to be heard. Attention seeking? Yes. But the attention they seek should've been paid so much earlier. Not supporting them, but I think that's why they did it.
