I'm probably a little behind in only just finding this out, but the Lone Wolf adventure game books have been released as public domain with the blessings of the author Joe Dever. The gamebooks were released during the 80's gamebook craze but I always felt that the writing and game design were well ahead of the curve so It will be interesting to go back and check to see if nostalgia matches reality. Also there is a free program available called Seventh Sense which allows you to download the books and play them on your PC, it keeps track of your stats and inventory etc. The Seventh Sense is available here:

http://www.projectaon.org/staff/david/index.php

You can download the books from within the program or you can get just the books here:

Edit: It still features the original Gary Chalk artwork which is a bonus, that guy was awesome.

Haha! Yeah, I was actually at a bit of a loss as to what part of the forums to put this in but decided in the end that it really counted as a computer game now :)

haha no more cheating with rolls too :D
They do have a bookmarking feature though, beats marking a page you may need to return to with your finger. I never considered backtracking if I died cheating though, lets be honest who really wants to wade through the whole adventure to correct one wrong turn :)

Captcha: Lardy-dardy. Hmmph, no Lone Wolf for you Captcha!

I was wondering about this when I made the thread but it seems enough of us remember to make it worthwhile :D

Actually you can kind of, there is an option that lets you use the arrow keys to "sway" the marker.

Yeah this has been around for ages. I'm actually almost completely through the ones they've done on essentially hardcore runs. Some of the earlier books have so many instant death decisions :/ :\
