I enjoy it. I mean that as in every sense of loneliness. If I'm merely alone then I can spend a lot of time doing exactly what I want to do and how I want to do it, with no one to criticize me, distract me or tell me how I should be doing it.

If you mean it as in feeling completely alone in the world with no one to help me then I also love it. I don't ask people for help when I need it, I figure it out for myself or research how to fix it. If I have a life problem then I solve it myself.

I fucking love being loneliness, but I also love being social.

I'm more the type who gets lonely in a crowd. I require a lot of alone time, and I've never lacked for people trying to intrude on that time... nor have I ever lacked for companionship whenever I care to seek it.

My depression comes from other sources, and I tend to cope with it by invalidating its relevance in my head... or escapism.

I don't really get "lonely" that often, I actually prefer to be alone. I have a sort of "sociality bar" that starts to run out whenever I interact with people, some people drain it faster, but once it's empty I need to be alone for a while.

I do get specks of depression though. I'm not really sure you can call it real depression, but I get my share of downs too. What I do then is I listen to music, music that fits and soothes my soul (if you'll forgive the cheesyness of that line).
Lately I've also been making playlists on youtube of videos that I know always make me happy. Like Where the Hell is Matt? [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlfKdbWwruY] and a few other favorites.
I also watch movies and tv shows that make me happy, I recently picked up My Little Pony and my favorite "get happy"-movie is a tie between Forrest Gump and Amélie.

I try to make myelf feel better with all my five senses essentially. I smell flowers (and basil, do you know how good basil smells?), try to taste delicious things and touch (ew, not like that). I've found that to be quite an effective way of getting out of a hole. I usually really only need one of my senses to be happy, but if it's really, really bad, that usually works.

I also think a lot, philosophise (or whatever you call the verb form of "philosophy"), that works for me. Wow, I really unloaded there... hope someone found it helpful. ^.^

For loneliness, definitely masturbation to be honest. Especially physical loneliness rather than emotional loneliness it just kind of helps to fool yourself for awhile in having actual intimate, physical contact with someone when there's literally nothing you can do about it, being in the middle of nowhere, etc what it might be.

Depression, though, is definitely harder. Harder to get yourself out of bed sometimes, and the one thing I always tell myself is just to keep on getting out of bed, keep to some semblance of a routine or some normalcy in my life. Not to the level of lying to myself, telling myself that my depression or the problems that brought them do not exist. Most important to just keep on moving forward and never let it stop you.

I guess I am a bit of a oddball here but I love to be alone I find that when I am around people to long I start to wish I was alone

I am the same way, I like people enough to not be completely antisocial but when i am around people for too long I also start wishing that I was by myself.

OT: What kind of loneliness? Having no friends or no significant other? I have friends and family (sort of) but no significant other (and I personally don't care much about it). Bur none of my friends or family is close by so i guess you can say I am lonely but being alone doesn't bother me much. Video games help a lot.

I play computer games and listen to heavy metal. Tends to drown out any semblance of that stupid inner voice that makes you depressed. Screw you, inner voice. Playing games with bright colours tend to help alot like Mario and The Sims 3.

Going outside and sitting in the sun is good the sun boosts anti depressive chemicals in your body.

I find going to see my sister and her kids is also really nice. I get cuddles and they cheer me up with thier antics.

One time my depression (diagnosed by a psychiatrist I'm not just a drama queen) got really bad and I was sitting in my sisters room, talking to her really upset, and my little 2 year old neice comes in and just gives me a big hug. So nice.

It depends what you're looking for: affection, friends, respect,...
As you can tell pretty much everyone suggests to keep your mind occupied from introspection.

Reading a book, listening to music, doing sports, drawing, gaming, etc. will all help. I'd advise against drugs because of their long term complications.

I guess I'd go with this. I'm happy when there aren't people around all the time. Its peaceful, I can listen to my music and get on with some work without being bothered by family members asking me to do things or just generally being pestered. When I do get the feeling of loneliness, I go over to a Brothers or friends house and chill out. However most the time I just like my solitude.

That an I guess I'm not all that often alone, I generally talk to people online quite a lot, however they don't really pester you so I can talk while working away.

No. A realistic outlook. Life can't suck always. There's always a bright spot on the horizon. Even if i die trying to find it it will still be there.

What i really do is hide behind a chirpy persona and make sarcastic jokes to mask my severe depression.

This was how I used to deal with it as well, and still do when my gf is away. But when I met her I completely broke down and let everything out, to this day I'm amazed I didn't scare her off.

One day I hope I can stop being completely stoic and sarcastic, have a complete emotional breakdown with the person I love, and not completely terrify them. Well if you did it then I can to Huzzah for hope!
