MGS, Mario, Metroid,Zelda and Guitar Hero these franchise cluttering up a developing industry?
I view Nintendo as worst offender by far with all their Mario,Zelda and Metroid games for DS and Wii, they add nothing substantial to the platform and have become stagnant, it appears the company survives on these alone(that and shovelware) which is sad as back in the day their original IP's like Conker were brilliant. Same with MGS. I found MGS4 (although whilst intriguing) extremely pretenious, the mass on cut-scenes, seemed more like a directors pet project. Until the past couple of months I saw Halo in the same way until the variated the gameplay (RTS, super human, ODST) but even Halo is in danger of becoming a drag on the industry.
Thoughts? or am I just getting bored too fast of these franchises'?

Wii Sports
Wii Sports Resort
Endless Ocean
Wii Fit
Wii Music
Wii Play.

These are the result from Nintendo when they don't "rehash" there usual titles.

"Command & Conquer" has been running for well over a decade. But even the average RA3 didn't ruin it, so long-running franchises aren't always bad, I guess.

Jesus I forgot about them, its ridiculous, the industry needs more creativity!
The industry needs creativity, but also money. You can't make an ambitious experimental game without finances to do so AND money padding in case it fails miserably. Long-running franchises, as long as they stay popular with gamers, provide a steady flow of income, which can be spent on creative projects. So I wouldn't say "cut all the established brands and concentrate on something NEW!", because that would be too risky.

Never Ending Fantasy.
There's also those EA franchises like:
The Sims.
Need For Speed.
Medal of Honor.
Burnout.
And so forth.

OH NO! Not games that have similar names and are highly loved by the gaming community! I say we send a formal complaint for them to cease and desist.

Considering I've found every Zelda game I've played fun, Final Fantasy changes with each iteration, I've heard good things about the Metroid games...why fix what isn't broken? The games are consistently fun, if they count as "stagnation," then may mosquitoes thrive in the gaming industry forever more.

I understand that these games don't provide anything new, but you don't need a business degree to see that it makes these companies money.

Hell, I'd do this too if I were running a big gaming corporation. Money is money and if people keep buying, you gotta keep selling.

If you'll excuse the comparison, video game companies are like hookers: They'll take money over dignity any day.

Fourteen games. They're making another MMORPG.

I think people complain, not because they can, because it's a shitting shame that people who don't keep a constant look out for new games will only buy franchises they recognise, which doesn't always mean best, this means some people will miss out on some really good games and it's nice to share the experience thats why :)

No, it means everyone has different tastes and are free to buy whatever games tickle their fancy. There are plenty of non-franchise games out there for people like you to play. There is no reason why series like Zelda, Mario Bros., and *gasp* Final Fantasy can't go on for as long as video games exist.

the main problem that i have will long going franchise is that they ruin the orignality of the previos games that come out like when the first mario came out it was so addictive and i thought that the story was pritty random and cool about a plummer who has to save the princeses peach and eating magic mushrooms and jumping on turtles backs i thought and still think that its a game of legands but when they keep on making seqauls upon seqauls i feel that it robs the game of it charme and the imagination that it had. but aslong as people are willing to buy these shoddy knockoffs of the game legands then there will always be games like this

they need to think of new ideas no matter how random or crazy because i would rather have a insane game than a bouring souless creation because people are to scared to let go of a dieing character =/

Final Fantasy, over thirteen games with more on the way, all generally following the same basic gameplay, the same basic story, with the same basic characters.

Jesus christ, people who ***** about this kind of stuff annoy me to no end at all. It just reeks of complaining because you CAN. When a game comes out that a lot of people love an want there to be more of, fuck yes there's going to be sequels. Just because it doesn't appeal to YOU, that doesn't exactly mean that everyone else hates it... there's a reason for it to exist. Stop being so selfish.
I have to say I agree to be fair they do need their bread and butter money if they ever want to try make new games.

And nearly everytime something new is tried it just gets bashed or rejected anyway because it isn't perfect or up to standard like Legendary had a good concept behind it with the monsters even though it had flaws but thats just one example.

If you want creative games you have to really look for them yourself and go out of your way to find and not expect them to be perfect.

I seriously don't know who would see every Final Fantasy game and say "Yep. This will never get old".
