OK, I'm sure this has probably been discussed before, but has anyone else ever struggled to play through an old game, particularly those that have subsequently had successful sequels?

By this I don't mean in the trying-to-get-the-damn-thing-working kind of way, but rather due to either the realisation that things have moved on, or that all of your happy memories have been shaded by happy nostalgia.

I have a real tendency to hoard games and I can only justify my oversized collection by occasionally replaying some old 'gems' that I remember being groundbreaking at the time and stunningly good fun. Yet when I try to replay these classics, I find that I'm met by growing frustration and even outright disappointment.

So, am I alone in this?

In my case...sort of, but for different reasons.

When I played C&C 1, RA 1 and Theme Hospital for the first time, I found all three fiendishly hard and quiet the challenge to complete.

12 years later, I've played them again and I whizzed through them without breaking much of a sweat. I was a little dissapointed that the challenge that was there 12 years ago...had dissapeared, simply because I'm a better gamer than 12 years ago.
