Hey guys I have never been an RTS person, but I would like to give it one more try.

Are there any reasonably priced RTS's you guys would recommend?

Keep in mind I do like a lot of action, I am new to RTS's, and also I think I can borrow my friends copy of Warcraft 3.

Thanks for the help!

Age Of Empires 1!

Or, if you can stand it, Halo Wars. May be Halo, but is the most simplistic RTS ever, and focuses more on action than spending hours building up your army.

Company of Heroes and Dawn of War II, maybe. There is no base building in these, but plenty of strategy. Homeworld 2 has space battles in three dimensions.

Go for either Company of Heroes or World in Conflict, both are $20 on Steam and have great single player campaigns. World in Conflict has lots more action though.

Dawn of War. The first one. The Dark Crusade expansion pack is the best. It's the only RTS I've ever really liked or been semi-decent at.

How much would Starcraft 1 cost these days? I heard you have to pay for each race in Starcraft 2?
YOU HEARD WRONG *froths at the mouth* YOU GET ALL 3 RACES OUT OF THE BOX, THE SINGLE PLAYER CAMPAIGN JUST FOCUSES ON THE TERRANS AND THEY'LL RELEASE EXPANSION PACKS WITH SINGLE CAMPAIGNS FOR THE OTHER RACES FLDFKNDASJNFAD ARGGHHH!

...Sorry.

....I hear that alot.

starcraft 1 is 10-15$ probably less because of SC2.

You don't have to pay for each race really. each has it's own campaign, but those will be released along with the expansions.

Dawn of War is a good one, Age of Empires as well, Company of Heroes involves quite a bit of strategy.

Start with the original Starcraft. It's still awesome, and simple enough to pick up (on the easier difficulty settings, anyway).

Starcraft one is good, it's cheap to buy, and runs on anything. There is some dated parts to the single player campaign though. The game unabashedly cheats to create difficulty.

Red Alert 2. It's simple enough for a newcomer, yet deep enough for anyone willing to practice. It also has hilarious campaigns and funny FMVs.
Oh, and it's based on classic Command and Conquer mechanics, so you'll automatically be able to play most RTS games out there, because they all derivate at some point.

Even better during a LAN parties with friends[footnote]Main reason why Starcraft 2 will suck[/footnote]
I'm sorry, I hate to derail a thread.

But WHAT

What does LAN have to do with the gameplay? At all? Seriously, people need to get over this.
