I think I've seen this thread before, but anyways, I'd suggest a few of my local favorites here. Check out Their Teeth Will Be Of Lions and The Skies Revolt. They are both pretty interesting and you can hear what they sound like on myspace.

Try Those Poor Bastards.

Think country with a gothic twist.

Or, you could think of it as COUNTRY DONE RIGHT.

I could provide a link if your interested.

I recently got into "The Books." They're pretty cool.

There's always any Band with Mike Patton. that would be; Mr. Bungle, Tomahawk, Fanthomas, Faith No More, etc.

YOu might like Coil and Ulver.

Try these:

http://www.myspace.com/chinastylemusic
http://www.myspace.com/larouxuk

The first one, Chinastyle, are a relatively new UK soft rock group who are pretty awesome, but they've been on Myspace and working on their debut album for ages with no progress (although apparently they recently released a single from said album). Personally I think the album is stuck in development hell with just a few songs done, hence the released single, but the Myspace page has their music so far and it is really good, especially 'Trip the Light Fantastic' (Kerrang showed the video of their first single about 2 years ago).

The second link is to another UK group, La Roux, who are pretty much sort of Indie crossed with Electropop and Synthpop. Like The Ting Tings they're made up of a male/female duo, singer Elly Jackson and instrumentalist Ben Langmaid. They're about to release their debut album and are hotly tipped to be the next new big UK act of 2009, and they're definitely worth a listen (I don't usually listen to their style, but I can honestly say they've converted me :D).
