Hi guys,

As I'm sure a fair few of you play them I'd like some recommendations on a PC FPS I can enjoy online.

Ones I've enjoyed in the past are Quake III Arena and Halo. I'm considering buying Halo PC again but I'm unsure if anyone still goes online on that game. Can anyone confirm?

I'm looking for a 'simple' FPS. Generally I like deathmatches (no complicated rules, arenas or controls/ commands like Quake Wars).

I've just ordered Far Cry 2 for PC (had to give in to DRM but at least I'm buying it real cheap) but I've a feeling that's more of a single player experience (?).

Any suggestions guys? Unreal Tournament 3 seems like some fun?

It's more complex than a deathmatch, but Team Fortress 2 is loads of fun.

Also, Call of Duty 4 should be good for you.

Left 4 Dead is really fun and its a shooter 50% of the time, the other half is a kick ass zombie piss off machine.

Possibly TF2, although that might cross the complexity boundary for you. It has capture the flag, and capture the points. Both in team modes. Oh, and team arena now (basically, kill the other team without respawns).

If that doesn't sit with you, try Unreal Tornument (3 is the most recent, I think). Fast, simple, FPS with a good graphics engine.

Unreal Tournament III is a fine, easy to play game. Plus, its also well optimized so it'll give you little to no problems to set up.

If your looking for something simple but fun then I would go with Combat Arms. It's free but it's great.

Team Fortress 2 (TF2) is very rewarding, but it comes at the cost of being slightly more complicated (strategy based, not all matches are death match [arena is only one {no respawns though ^}])

Best bracket chain ever.

I have the PC Halo and last I checked there were almost no people online.

That said, Team Fortress 2 is an absolute classic, almost perfect in every way. It is, however, slightly more complex and not as straightforward as you might be looking for. For a good'ol "no brainer, enemies over there, now get to work" either go with Call of Duty 4 or give the latest Unreal Tournament a go.

Combat Arms is really an entertaining online FPS. It has the renting system which sucks but it's a well made game. Its also so free so there's no harm in trying it.

Team Fortress 2, a game practically designed with every bit of seriousness replaced with pure fun.

Hmmm. The levels on Combat arms look a bit big, but I'm gonna give that a shot. I'm downloading the UT3 demo also.

Not sure about Team Fortress 2 though. Looked at some of the vids and there's something about it that just doesn't grab me. Shame you can't play a demo.

Shame to hear no-one plays Halo PC online anymore ; ;

Is it easy to play Halo 2 on XP yet?

Keep the recommendations coming though people.

Go grab Counter Strike: Source and go look for some server mods like Zombie Mod
-Its simle, Fun and Awesome.

On that note, If you own a source engine game (Half Life 2, Counter-Strike Source, Team Fortress 2, Day Of Defeat: Source...) Go check out Garrys Mod. That game allows anyone to create a mini-mod (game mode) and people can join to it. The game gets as simple or as complex as you want it. For what Garrys Mod offers, its alot of bang for your buck.

Im sure anyone who has played Garrys Mod will agree. Version 10 is $US10 but version 9 is free - but not as widely supported.

Otherwise, Go check out Quake Live or Battlefield Heroes (Coming out of private beta eventually). Like everyone else, I strongly suggest Team Fortress 2 and Left4Dead to a lesser extent (if you want smplicity, although Left4Dead plays alot like an arcade shooter, except more awesome per pixel)

If you're into DM games, then Counter-Strike is the way to go. It has loads of mods that will conform to your tastes. It's really cheap, so it's a good way to go. If you still want more, and a giant variety of things, then get garry's mod. It has (literally) everything you can imagine. From RPGs to zombie killing-fests, it has it all. And for only $10, it's pretty much a must have.
