Looking for a game like Civilization

Anyone know of a game like civilization that is more resource management/expansion based rather than military/combat based?

I'm thinking something like Civilization meets Settlers of Catan. Ideally, I want resources to be more important than simply used to upgrade a tile (and giving a small smei-permanent boost to production or gold etc) and trading. I want them to be integral to successful expansion (at least, more than in Civ).

I have a PC, PS3 (and obviously PSN), Wii (and obviously Virtual Console), DS Lite and an Android phone.

Anyone have any ideas? I've looked into Total War and Age of Empires but they seem to focus more on military units rather than less. Correct me if I am mistaken.

Thanks so much!

Take a look at Europa Universalis 3.

Not a clue how to play it but the demo is on Steam, the learning curve is high so you may want to set some time to reading how to play it as well with some tutorials.

Not overly sure how resource managed it is, it could be in the same vain as Civ, but the only other (along with all other Paradox grand strategies) I know of other than the ones you mentioned.

Alpha centauri? Masters of orion 2? Except alpha centauri is fairly similar to civ2 and cant say combat isnt an important aspect of it, and moo2 combat is a big part of the game.

Actually i think galactic civilizations 2 might be more what you're looking for, especially as combat in that is automated and all you do is watch the ships you designed duke it out against the enemy.

I'd caution against Eu3 as that is grand strategy, not 4x.

Just thinking that might be better if you want solely resource management and not controlling a load of units.

I'm as far away as an expert on that as it gets on those though, but I can't think of anything that is just resources.

Fair enough ;)

I consider myself more knowledgeable then most on this genre (at least in this forum) and struggling too, mainly because so many 4x i think off has an emphasis or take on combat that can't be avoided.
And it has to be a game "like civ" meaning interesting games like Kings of dragons pass dont count even if i could argue they are still about growing your own civ/tribe.

Gal civ 2 still best reccomendation I can think off at this point.

Thanks. I'll take a look at all of those. You never know, I may end up liking them even if they weren't what I was thinking of. Better than where I was before.

For something different: Imperialism 2 [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imperialism_II:_Age_of_Exploration].

It's very focused on building your economy, and it's definitely one of my favourite 4X games. Only issue would be finding a copy of it.
