Hello

I am currently looking for a new game to buy, and I was hoping someone here could help me =)
if this is not the right forum please point me in another direction =D

I have mostly been playing strategy games of all kinds, Total War, SC2, Civ, CK2, M&B Warband, RUSE, DoW and yeah, you get the point =)

But I have also been playing a bit of RPG's, DA:O, ME, KOTOR, Witcher, VTM:Bloodlines and most recently I bought the HumbleIndieBundle 5, and played Bastion.
Bastion made me realise that for my next game I want something good at telling a story, and I tried looking things up on the web, but nothing really got to me, I was close to buying Skyrim but it seemed like it was too shallow of a game compared to what I am looking for. A game good at telling a story =D

So, I am asking you which games are great at telling the story? =)

PS: Why is "Last of us" ps3 exclusive!?, seems like it would be great, aaargh..

The mass effect trilogy...seriously....dont listen to what anyone here tells you about the ending of the third one (i loved it) but even if you dont like the ending it doesnt stop the series from having the best characters and...well best everything ive ever played in a game.

Warband is an RTS? I would have said RPG.

OT: I guess half life would be a good bet. I always thought it was shitty and the story was bad, but I'm in the minority. The majority of people think it kicks ass and the story is fantastic.

Hmm, I found that Kingdoms of Amalur told quite an interesting story while having a gameplay system that seemed to take some of the better elements of Skyrim, so maybe take a look at that.

@GeneralTwinkle
Okay, I see the point with Warband, it had strategy elements but mostly RPG yes =)
Hmm, never really thought about Half Life like that, I might have a look into it.

@Enthuril
But is it good at telling the story? It could still have a half-baked storyline but be good at telling it, or have a great storyline and be horrible at telling it =)

I found the storyline quite engaging and the characters were very well-made, and the best part about that is it did it while keeping the game somewhat open world. If you're not looking solely for RPGs I'd recommend giving Bioshock a look too, I really enjoyed the story in it.

My first question is: Which systems do you own?

If you own a DS, I would happily recommend Ghost Trick. It's a puzzle-wait, wait! Let me finish! It's a puzzle game where the puzzles take place within the world. Basically, you play a ghost and are trying to figure out how you died. You have the ability to stop time and manipulate objects by possessing them, but the range that you can move between objects is rather short. The majority of puzzles involve moving from place to place to gather information and trigger events. It has one of the best stories I've seen in games, and tells it perfectly. The story unfolds as you play, not through cutscenes. The cast of characters is well written, and the plot has enough twists to keep things interesting without getting overly contrived. The puzzles are, for the most part, easy to figure out, though a few can be frustrating to figure out. If it sounds even the least bit interesting from my horrible description, please, check it out.
