Title says it all. i have 4 gb ram with a 2.4 ghz processor.
Define RPG elements? Are we talking heavy on the fps and light on the RPG like CoD4 multi player or light on the FPS but heavy on the rpg like Fallout 3 and Deus Ex?

Borderlands fits the description perfectly.
He said an FPS with RPG elements, not a repetitive grindfest with shitty gunplay. Go for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. I guess.
Well we're only throwing out ideas and giving opinions so for all we know that could be what he is looking for as a FPS with RPG elements is very ill defined as technically speaking Deus Ex is a RPG with FPS elements while CoD 4 multi player is a FPS with RPG elements(leveling and easily known weapon stats). As I said technically speaking calling Deus Ex that here and not mentioning because of that is being a bit pedantic but just thought to throw it out there.

Anyway for games Fallout 3, Bioshock 1 and 2, Deus Ex games, Borderlands, Metro 2033(I think haven't played it), System Shock games off the top of my head.

Instead of completely disregarding my opinion, you could at least acknowledge that he might like Borderlands even though you didn't. And instead of coming off as a complete douchebag, you could at least try to prove your point by explaining how the game has the problems you say they have.
And with multiple people, Borderlands isn't a grindfest.

Presuming you're over 18, Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines!

More of an rpg with shooter mechanics than the other way around, but it's an absolutely brilliant game which despite some bugs (Which have largely been fixed with official and unofficial patches) is one of the best rpg released in years, even better than Mass Effect I'd say and comparable to the legendary Deus Ex even.

The problem is, the more RPG elements you include into your game, the more grindy it gets. I'd go with Fallout 3. There's enough to do, that you can spend years of your life not doing anything related to the story. The gunplay is definitely better on the PC than on the Console too. (this is coming from a major console fan), but it's still well paced and interesting.

all those newer games become moot if he indeed as a single core CPU. Dues Ex seems like the best bet. Also, STALKER was quite fun. I compared it to Russian Oblivion. Its alot of fun. If this mystical 2.4 Ghz CPU is a multiple core deal, then go with Fallout, Bioshock, Mass Effect, and any of those games. Mass Effect 2 was honestly the best game I've played to date, but its not an FPS. Still, I clocked probably 100 hours into that game... and its single player. Its a really well rounded experience, and certainly Bioware's better game between Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age Origins.
