I'm trying to figure out a good gaming headset for my PC. Since I really don't know anything about them I'm looking to the Escapist users for some feedback...

I prefer cup earphones and a USB interface and obviously an attached microphone. Any recommendations? I would like to spend $100 or less on these and if you can provide links to the products you are suggesting on amazon, newegg, etc that would be awesome.

Thanks in advance!

i've had a turtle beach headset for a while now and it really works well (quite comfortable and is pretty durable). The ear force x-11's are nice and are within your >$100 price range at $60. while it's designed for xbox it also works for PCs so it's a multi-functional headset =)

tritton's are really nice looking but i can't testify to how they fit. TRITTON AX 180's are a slightly cheaper version but probably work just as well.

in my humble opinion, i would suggest buying a pair of x-11's and if they don't work for you switch to tritton

good luck with your search for a proper headset

I've personally been using a SteelSeries 3H [http://www.amazon.com/SteelSeries-61008-3H-Headset-ear-cup/dp/B001R8YX7A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1282672622&sr=8-1] for a while now, and I've never had any problems with it. Meets all of your requirements and well within your budget as well.

I have used this headset on a friend's xbox and have found it a bit too uncomfortable and it just has so many wires.

This set seems to interest me though. How is the sound quality?

also, does anyone know anything about this? [http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826158075]

that was the only one i was really considering before i made this thread but other than the user reviews I don't know much about them...

My suggestion.
They are extremely easy to wear for extended periods of time. Little to no pressure on or around the ears. Decent sound/mic quality. All for 45$

Seriously, why do you want USB? Headsets are coming around, there are a number of good 5.1 sets out there (I have the Turtle Beach Ear Force HPA2 which is fantastic) and USB can only emulate surround sound. If it's for a stationary PC I'd say just get some wire ties and try to forget the mass of wires in the back of the machine.

HPA2 on turtlebeach.com [http://www.turtlebeach.com/products/pc-gaming-headsets/ear-force-hpa2.aspx]

Note when I bought mine I got it from J&R [http://www.jr.com/turtle-beach/pe/TBS_HPA2USB/] for a better price. (currently 69.99 + shipping)

I know you say you want USB but, again, I think you should seriously consider a 5.1 set if it's a stationary PC. (if you don't have 5.1 audio it'll still work for 2.1)

I've got a Creative Fatal1ty Pro Series Gaming Headset with a detachable mic. and i have nothing to complain about. They don't cut out outside noise though (what I think is a plus) so if that's not your thing don't get those. They are pretty cheap as well.

Hmm, I think you may have given me the winner. That looks good to me. They at least LOOK very comfortable and your wire tie solution sounds like a great idea, thanks!

I have a Plantronics Gamecon 777 headset. It has nice big cans and a very eighties look that I like. USB and very comfortable. Pretty good bass as well. They are also cheap cheap cheap.

Well, the set I have is connected via audio jack rather than USB, so I really couldn't tell you if there is any sound quality difference because of that, but the set I have has pretty good sound quality. Not the absolute best, but certainly good enough for the price. The mic is excellent as well.
