I've been using my PSP for about 6 or 7 year now as a MP3 player, before that the original (gen1) ipod.

I'm now looking to get a MP3 player, but I'm feeling rather out of date.

A few things:
I don't care about playing video.
I don't care about touch screen.
I don't care about going online.

I'm just looking for a MP3 player that's got at least 32+GB of memory on it.
Or, at the very least, the ability to increase the memory with (micro)SD cards.

Thoughts?

Wrong forum, but personally - until I get new, bluetooh-using headphones at least - I use a truly ancient one from TrekStor called i.Beat with just 1 GB internal memory. Looks kind of like this one, but black and older:

The concept's the same.

Big boons?
- Uses AAA-batteries, so no trouble with dying internal batteries.
- Has an SD-card slot which I currently have a 16 GB one sticking in.
Cons?
- Slow loading and transferring.
- SD-card can jiggle a bit, causing the device to switch to internal memory. Especially annoying with audiobooks or long podcasts because of losing the spot you were in.

There are probably successor-models (like the pictured one) by now that work even better and/or have more internal memory, though. I don't ask for much from my mp3-players except for huge storage and the ability to easily replace batteries if one of them dies. My experience with my iPod way back when caused me never to want one of those with an internal battery (or one from Apple) again. Plus, these ones probably cost about a tenth of an iPod.

Not sure about that.. discussions where Apple products are involved can basically turn into a religious argument with the Cult of Steve Jobs.

I met to post in the 'advice' forum.

Derp.
I've searched far and wide for a decent MP3 player that is not an Ipod and I've found Sansa fuze by Sandisk. It has an impressive battery life, big enough screen and the ability to extend the memory via micro SD cards. The main upside to owning this though is that you can install the custom Rockbox firmware which adds a bunch of functionality features to it such as support for different file formats, games (it can play Doom), extended audio settings e.t.c.

That really takes me back...I remember doing that on my iriver H320 which turned it from a great MP3 player to a legendary little box of awesome. Played all the way back through Pokemon red on it between classes back before I got a half decent phone to do all that stuff and then sold the thing.

They're tricky to come by since they're long out of production (there's only one on eBay which someone has managed to put an SSD inside of) but if you can find one at the right price it'd definitely be a recommendation of mine. I'd go mental if I went back to something like that after having a high-end Android phone but it was really great for what it was.

I loved my Sansa Fuze players but for some reason they both died after only 1 year of use. The problem was the 'hold' button, a springloaded slide button used to turn it on/off, stopped working. This was about a year before Apple finally decided to add a radio.

Sansa MP3 players are a great, low-cost solution, but longevity is an issue. However, you can just buy four or five 2GB Sansa Clip MP3 players (with expandable memory) for the cost of a single iPod Touch. Thing is, my 8GB iPod Touch from 2009 is still working perfect.

Mine is 3 and a half years old and still working great, the coating of the casing was recently peeled off though. I never use the lock function so it may have something to do with it. Ipods are good but they're just too expensive.
