Hello fellow escapists, for the first time in years I've run out of anime to watch and am starting to grow very bored. Looking for suggestions of series new or old. I like pretty much anything and I'm looking for some obscure/underrated shows that I might not be able to discover in most normal searches.
Anime I've watched recently include things like K-ON!, Spice and Wolf, Kampfer, To Love Ru, Bakemonogatari, Desert Punk and a bunch of other stuff.
So lets get rolling on those suggestions and lets see if you cant cure this boredom of mine.

Hunter X hunter is my favorite. But you really should try the big 3 even though they are massively overrated.

Well, just because I can, and I love the series, I recommend Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, and the follow on season Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai.
I could recommend more...

By the big 3 do you mean Naruto, Bleach and One Piece? If so, Ive had more than enough of those over the years.

Seirei no Moribito

- underrated? I don't know
- obscure - definitely
- worth watching - HELL YES! It lacks any characters annoying in the typical for animes way, it has an interesting setting and a captivating premise, and it features some of the best spear fights I've seen animated.

if you like a bit of surreal humor (more often refereed to as Random humor) and comedy: Azumanga Daioh,
the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is also a enjoyable anime to watch (but you probably heard of it already and it's not really obscure)

Last Exile is a nice anime as well, look it up.

If you enjoy romance mixed with Comedy, go for Ah! My Goddess (or Ah! Megami-sama in Japanese.) it's still one of my all time favorites.

If you don't mind Mechas then a really obscure anime would be IdolMaster : Xenoglossia It has a nice bit of action, bitter-sweet romance (well... sort of...) issues about friendship trust and other stuff like that. Probably not worth Evangilion but still good.

I haven't seen it myself but a lot of people told me to watch Code Geass A.S.A.P. and I've heard mostly great stuff about it.

That's all I can think of right now. Hope that helps

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. Seriously. It's dark, hilarious, perverted and plotless.

Welcome to the NHK. Two words. Mind fuck.
Loved them both! Both brilliant series!

Eureka Seven is a good one. I just finished watching it myself. Quick heads up, the movie based on it is set in a different time period, though with the same characters.

And if you don't mind waiting, Black Rock Shooter will be released in about a month's time

Definitly Baccano. While it's not underrated, it's definitly obscure and one of my favorite shows.

Hajime no Ippo. If you like Baki the Grappler, you will love Hajime no Ippo. It is about a loser who gets into boxing after being saved from bullies by a passing fighter. The fights are exciting with tons of action and more on the realistic side than Baki was.

That show does look interesting and very stylised, looking forward to it now. :D

I would say to not bother with Brotherhood at all until you've seen the original series of Fullmetal Alchemist as Brotherhood skips over some very important plot points rather quickly early on which have more depth and feeling in the original series.

Also, if you haven't seen it, Cowboy BeBop is probably one of the best I've seen and Full Metal Panic (not related to Fullmetal Alchemist) is also worth a look but not many people like it from my experience.

Shame on you all!
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann!

I also recommend Darker Than Black, FateStay Night, Tales of the Abyss, Samurai X, Black Lagoon, various Gundam series -if- you can get into it.

Oh and for the record I'd watch Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood before the original Fullmetal Alchemist, you'll gain a much better respect for the series for following the original story how it's ment to be told.

You could check out Rebuild of Evangelion (remake of the original series).

I saw the first 2 movies and they're worth a watch for the animation quality alone.
