Hey all,
Ok, so I need a new rig, truth be told I don't really have the time or know how to build one. If I were going to buy a new PC and I am trying to keep it under 850.00 what would you all recommend. Is Dell still a good buy? how is HP doing these days?

I know this is a bit of herasy that I would consider a commercial PC but I could use the input.
I am looking for a quad core if possible, I won't be over clocking so Intel is fine
1 gig video card,
hard drive size isn't really a concern,
6 gig ram
no monitor necessary

I think that is about it. Thanks in advance for the input.

Tell the people what you will use it for, and they will tell you to put it together yourself, and have an ultimate game rig (or whatever) for $500. They will most likely give you links as well.

EDIT: At least they claim that they can... spend any extra and find a local to put it together for ya. I'm sure someone would do it for 100, probably less.
I work a lot, I like to relax on my weekends, I don't want to build it myself. Oh and probably games but nothing too graphics intensive.

Your set with a good monitor or hd tv? And this is for a tower, not a laptop, yes? I would find a local computer shop, one that only does computers, and they might build you one based on your budget. If not, I like HP, and can't stand Dell. I'm sure by tomorrow one of the PC guys will notice this post tho.

Best of luck tho!
Yeah I still have a solid monitor, and yeah I am looking for a tower.

Local shops are usually the best place if you don't want to do it yourself. So just go there and tell them these general specs and see what they pull out for you. If it isn't too expensive. Buy it.

Given your stated requirements, what you're probably going to end up doing is buying a run-of-the-mill desktop PC from HP or Dell or whoever, then cracking it open and installing a proper graphics card and a power supply to feed it.

I got an impressive deal on a Dell.

- Core i7-930
- 9 GB RAM
- Radeon HD 5670 1 GB
- 1 TB HDD

All for about $1200 pre-tax, with 12 months no interest financing. Pretty sweet. More than I'd have paid for the parts separately, for sure, but that's OK with me given the generous credit terms (and having someone else to put it together and provide one-stop warranty service).
