Skullcandy is... okay. Not overrated, just maybe a bit pricier than they're worth. On the other hand, I've owned earphones that cost $20 but deliver $75+ sound quality. Price isn't all too proportional to quality, is what I'm saying.
If you have (a lot of) money, Earphone Solutions will not steer you wrong, I promise you that. It's annoying how it takes some navigation to find the headphones/headsets, but it's worth it to at least know which brands are the absolute top-notch quality. I shelled out $350 for a pair of earphones from there, and I would do it again and again, ten times over.
Other than that, Newegg is much more user-friendly, has a LOT of user reviews, and when something is rated good or bad, 90% of the time, it's because that's the rating the product deserves/earned. That said, take the negative reviews with a grain of salt, sometimes you get tools who don't know a product well enough to fairly judge it.
