Looking for Active Online Shooters

So I was about to purchase CoD AW on my PC until I saw the glaring orange, "Mixed" on Steam. Apparently it's mostly played on console with tons of vacant servers on PC. In all, I'm disappointed. I haven't played CoD since Black Ops and thought it would be fun to play a more arcade-like online shooter rather than the giant map with vehicles variety that Battlefield provides or hyper-realism of ARMA. Also yes, I've played TF2 for years and am right sick of it. No, I'm not interested in CS:GO either. My idea of fun isn't competitive wait for the round to end gameplay.

Now, it is an old game. I think like 2000. But it is fantastic. You basically go from campaign to campaign, where one is assaulting a battery on the beaches, to robbing gold from a bank and escaping. They can be quite varied, and they are loads of fun.
Servers are still populated. I would give it a shot, anyway, it is free.

Wait, what? I reinstalled the game for old time's sake a few months ago, and all the servers were either empty or populated by bots. Am I missing something?

I would love to play the game again; it was my go-to multiplayer shooter before TF2 came along.

dirty bombs fun , warframe has tuns of content and is great shooter if you want some co op, oh and payday 2 is awesome!

I was going to suggest Dirty Bomb as well. At least until Overwatch is released, although that doesn't even have a beta date yet.

Its a shame that cod aw doesnt have more players on pc, I had a ton of fun with the multi on it. If you want cod though, blops 2 still has a decently active player base. You could still probably find games for cod aw, but it would probably mostly be death match.

CS Go does have modes besides the one life per round. Its got a gun game type where every 2 kills you get a new gun and death match, both of which have instant respawn.

I'd forgotten about Dirt Bomb. I thought I remembered hearing that there was some... stink (sunglasses) surrounding it however: glitches, bad servers, something. Yet everything's okay now?

I've only encountered a couple of glitches myself, the main one making me unable to do anything but fly away like a bird [http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/437196233201114667/0CC5F7EAA01D0B3FFA15038E40345163FE318ABC/] and a weird one where they have a character imprinted on my screen. Both fixed by quitting the match and rejoining.

As for servers, can't say I've noticed bad ones, never had a problem connecting but I have been randomly DC'd a few times. Only issue I really have with Dirty Bomb apart from that is the fact you can't party up outside of competitive mode and the fact that your team-mates can be more than a little dumb but the last one is hardly the games fault.

If you are looking for CoD replacement then Dirty Bomb is the closest pick, also recently went advertising on youtube so the players are numerous. And doesn't cost you anything to try it.
There is also Blacklight Retribution, more sci-fi but all the mechanics are almost the same, also doesn't cost you to try it.

And for a more cartoony approach you got Loadout, you put together your own guns and do TF2 style nonsense.

Oh really? I was going off my experience maybe 2 years ago, and I figured that if it had been still going then, it would be still trucking along now. At the time I was surprised there were still a bunch of full servers going, but I guess it is dead now. That's a shame, it was my favourite.
