Looking for games with a Souls-esque feeling of being on a lonely journey through a ruined world

How about Journey? Ruined world, story told via imagery, last act really tries making you feel helpless, though maybe not as actiony as you wanted
This definitely is something I could enjoy, but I don't have a PS3, unfortunately (I've already added an EDIT to the OP to clear out the confusion I might've caused with wrong wording). Thanks anyway.
Dang, I was going to recommend that too! Journey is fantastic. Demon's Souls is out too then :/

Hmm, what about They Breathe? It's a short game that fits the mood you're looking for really well actually. It's probably best played without spoilers. And it looks like it's currently 60 cents, Canadian, on Steam.

Axiom Verge sort of fits into this setting. It's a Metroidvania about a man from 1999 ish Earth being sent to an alien world that looks like it was designed by H.R. Giger. The only remaining living things (if you can call them living) are super computers that are half malfunctioning and Trace (the MC) has to travel through his bizarrely alien world to try and figure out what's going on.

Plus it's a 2D sprite game, so your PC specs will most certainly not be a problem.

And the soundtrack for this game is fucking. GORGEOUS!

Journey was published by SCE, so will probably stay there. It's on PS4 too if you ever plan on getting one.

Looks like something right up my alley. I've added it to my wishlist.

Ok, I get the gist. Still, while technically correct, it doesn't really fit the mood I'm searching for.

It's Yoshi, and this thread isn't Nintendo-centric, so it's almost a guarantee that he was being facetious. Might as well call Mario Kart "Burnout-esque" by his reasoning.

Looks pretty intriguing. Might be worth a shot, especially since it's so cheap. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

I was never a huge Metroid fan, but I really dig this game's aesthetics. I'm definitely gonna play it at some point (especially since my brother owns it on his Steam account, so I can just play it via Family Sharing). Thanks for recommending it.

What Remains of Edith Finch technically fits the criteria.
I dunno. Tha overall atmosphere seems too Life is Strange-y for my liking.

I had a feeling this was the case, but being on reddit's game recommendation board for a couple of years made me think "maybe he was serious, you never know", since those kinds of out of place, unfitting answers are that board's bread and butter.

I think Resident Evil 7 can fit that mood
Not really. You don't travel far in this game, but rather just bumble around a big mansion. Plus, I can't run it anyway, so...

my reasoning?

i followed the OP's exact criteria and checked off a bunch of boxes that he laid out.

that is not "my reasoning" at all. don't make lies about me just because you're mad that i told you off for calling Cocage arrogant in the other thread please.

actually here's a thought, since you and Deadguy wanted Cocage to provide a source that backed up his comment in that thread, how about you provide us all with a source that proves my opinions about Splatoon 2 Octo Expansion wrong in this thread for me?

i highly doubt you've even played the normal campaign let alone completed it or the Octo expansion DLC or even watched Chiguy's video i posted in the this thread.
and no, i don't consider the basic campaigns in Splatoon 1 & 2 anywhere close to feeling Dark souls esque at all. but i do for the Octo expansion DLC for alot of the reasons that Chiguy describes.

OP even said to provide any genre and i listed splatoon 2 because i was making a comparison of the Splatoon DLC and Dark souls feelings. i never said anything that would've implied that Splatoon has EXACTLY the same type and genre of game play that Dark Souls has because obviously it doesn't

Absolver does the Dark Souls basics relatively well, though its rather light on story, short, and the endgame is basically just PvP.

Conan Exiles (if you stay off official PvP servers (you can just play it offline too) that are toxic hellholes) has a reasonably crafted storyline and RPG elements around it. That may be outside your technical specs though. Not really barren, but very much the scrabbling among the ruins setting.

Thanks for the recommendations, but unfortunately, both of these are out of my reach in terms of system requirements. I'm definitely gonna get Conan Exiles once I have access to better hardware, though.

Well I was only considering your posting history here and made a somewhat brash conclusion, so for that I?m sorry. I?m not mad about anything either. I only observe and make inferences based on those observations, usually with no feelings involved whatsoever.

Having said that, OP should?ve probably modified his original request in terms of ?any genre? being suitable, because that simply runs cross grain to its very intent. There are very few games let alone genres containing them which could accurately be considered ?Souls-esque?.

not really.

the majority of threads i post in on this forum are already based around Nintendo topics. and in those topics people are usually along the lines of "Hurr Durr Don't Listen to Yoshi he's just a Nintendo Fanboy! The Switch, Wii U, etc game is shit because i say so. Yoshi just wants to protect his precious Nintendo for some reason. god hasn't a clue why."

and most of the time if i ever enter a thread where the topic doesn't revolve around Nintendo, whether it be something like GOTY, or a topic like this thread, People here will then automatically just say to me stuff along the lines of "don't listen to Yoshi. he just trying to make the topic all about Nintendo again because that's just how much of a Fanboy he is. his opinion obviously doesn't matter about anything"

or if i'm the one that's made the thread about a Nintendo game or Nintendo related news like that cross play thread i made the other week about Nintendo and Xbox's joint marketing advertisement, people just act like "Ok? good for them, i don't give a crap about your topic so why is this worth discussing at all? go be a fanboy somewhere else!"

those aren't the exact words people say here of course. but that is how their tone generally comes across. this forum is just so negative and patronizing all the time.

I can't win in this place. it's so irritating.

By saying any genre is fine, what I had in mind was that I'm actually fine with any genre, as long as it fits the mood I'm looking for. I have a preference for more action-oriented genres, but that doesn't mean that I'm going to reject a point and click adventure game, or an RPG, just because it lacks the action part. It might lead to some way-too-liberal-interpretation-wise recommendations, but my intent with that was mostly not to hinder your creativity, especially since what I'm looking for is a specific type of atmosphere rather than aesthetics or gameplay mechanics.

Is it really everyone else?s fault that your reputation precedes you though? There is a not-so-fine line between being a fan and fanboy, or defending vs boasting. We all have our favorites, but wearing them on one?s sleeve has a tendency to draw the worst kinds of attention, sadly.

Hollow Knight might be what you're looking for.
It fits what I'm looking for to a tee. However, this game is also one I've already played. I'd definitely love to see another one like it.
Salt and Sanctuary is another. But I've assumed you've played it too.

Also try Valdis Story.
