Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines has one masterfully done horror section, as well as just being an awesome game altogether. Steam, $20, everyone reading this buy it now, patch 7.whatever it's up to

The entire Project Zero / Fatal Frame series. Amazing games.
Yes!

Fatal Frame 2 is, in my opinion, the best of the bunch as far as story goes. However, 3 is the scariest of the lot (and 1 the most difficult).

An oldy and only on certain formats. Eternal Darkness: Sanities Requiem
It is as lofcraftian as it gets without calling itself lofcraftian. It is a delightful happy game full of well look it up *Chuckle* remember sound on 10, lights out and play it in the dark... oooh.

*Poster is not responsible for seeing weird glowing symbols everywhere and people without heads*

Demon's Souls is an interesting take; it's not a horror game, strictly speaking, but it uses horror in a powerful way to carry the game and its point. Go check it out.

Definitely Amnesia. Indigo Prophecy and Eternal Darkness are pretty good too.
Listen to this man, Eternal Darkness is proabably my favourite horror game, it definitely does not get enough credit. Also, I hear Siren is pretty damn good, though I haven't gotten around to trying it myself.

EDIT: Actually, I don't think I would classify Indigo Prophecy as a horror game. It starts looking like it will be a horror, but heads in another direction.
Well it was a pretty horrible direction, I'll give it that much.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R Shadow of Chernobyl is absolutely terrifying, not the mutants although they are pretty sketchy at times, its the human enemy AI that will have you constantly on edge and jumping at every movement. Gunfights in STALKER games are far more tense and tactical in my experience than playing most online shooters.

Could always take a look at Killing Floor for PC, they're coming out with a new patch next week. (Free Maps and weapons, only thing you pay for is the initial purchase and the character skins.)

Stalker and Metro 2033. Neither are straight up horror games, but both are very scary in places.

Just looking for any good horror games you guys can suggest. Haven't played many but horror movies fascinate me soooo thought I'd get into horror games as well(I'm basically a clean slate that hasn't played any horror games)
I'm rarely scared by games, but here are the one's the got to me.

Condemned: CO - Just play it, you'll understand. I still have trouble forcing myself through the basement during the penultimate chapter

Metro 2033 - one particular section is like living a nightmare. Trust me, get to the Library, turn up the volume and try not to shit your pants. Utterly terrifying...

Silent Hill 2 - most emotional interactive experience out there, and it still holds up pretty well, soon to be released in HD but just play the PS2 version if possible. This game builds tension like no other and is the best representation of true interactive horror (the fear of the unknown, but you can't look away).

Resident Evil (Gamecube) One perfect concept that makes enemy encounters and failure all the more scary: Limited saves. Yeah... prepare to panic.

P.S. I started playing Amnesia and so far it isn't that scary to me, but from what I understand it has some brilliant gameplay mechanics based around horror (just LOOKING at the monsters drains your sanity, which reinforces the fear of the unknown because you shouldn't ever discover what they truly look like).

P.P.S. I think Enternal Darkness is overrated, great but not as awesome as others make it out to be. It's definitely unique though, and there was one moment that literally made me go airborne.
