So, about a week ago, my graphics card just gave up I guess. I was just about to play Far Cry 3, went to the bathroom to let it load, and when I came back, my computer was completley off. No error screens, no lights on at all. Originally I thought it was just my power supply, which would have been fine since I had a back-up, but to make sure I removed certain parts, and found that it was my $300 graphics card. I wasn't happy...

But that story leads me to the main reason for this discussion: Since I need to buy a new graphics card anyway, and I'm getting a new job soon, I decided to make another PC build, and this time a future proof one. So far, all my PC gaming has been just within budget, making for some decent PC gaming, but quickly becoming unsatisfactory as games evolve.

I'm asking for recommendations of PC parts that are going to be able to max out games today, and a few years at least in the future. I'm setting my budget this time at around $1,200, since I already have a monitor and peripherals (I use a 32" HDTV). I would prefer AMD CPUs since they usually are cheaper and have decent "bang for your buck", and Nvidia GPU since I have less issues with graphic intensive games using their graphics cards. Lately I've been looking at AMD FX 8-core CPUs, and a GTX 670 by EVGA. But, if you think you know an even better future proof set-up, please let me know. I'm looking to build the entire PC piece by piece, meaning from an empty case. I'm not new to PC gaming and building by any means, but I know I still have a lot to learn.
