Ok i was just going to make a smartass comment about it being Half Life 1:redux. After seeing the game trailer in HD i must say its rather satisfying. Just hope they dont charge an arm and a leg for it.
It's a mod, made by fans of the original game. Meaning that if you have a source engine game, it's free. An arm and a leg? Hardly.

"Looking forward to Black Mesa Source!"
"Keep looking".

Also, it's just Black Mesa now. Valve said they could do the mod as long as they removed the "source" from the name, as that indicates it's an official project.

Oh well hurray for that, i didnt know. I dont follow valve related things that closely.
Sorry if I came across as a little harsh, I didn't mean to.

OT: Of course, this mod has been in development for ages, and I've seen far too many cool looking total conversions die to follow them breathlessly any more. (Nuclear Dawn, anyone?)

It does look really cool. I'm not sure how necessary it is though; the original Half Life is still loads of fun. The only way this could be a significant improvement is if they have some characters, rather than generic scientists/guards.

Does anyone know if this is going to be sanctioned by Valve and downloaded through Steam, like Zombie Panic and Dystopia, or are we going to have to download this from the Black Mesa site like most of the other mods?

It should be free considering its a mod and Valve have kindly not sued them and let them make it. If they charged for it I'd imagine valve might get a bit annoyed.

I love the Source engine, finest game engine yet. ( Lets not drag ids engines into an engine war here.)

It won't be available through STEAM, so yea you'll have to download it from the website.

My only complaint with this mod is that Gordon Freeman "talks".

They got someone to do a voice-over for his thoughts, which really is kinda disappointing.

I actually couldn't get through Half-Life: Source, because the environments felt bland and it was just generally a bit boring.
Half-Life 2, on the other hand, is full of very different environments, lots of different character models, more story-driven etc.

I'll definitely give this a try.

Also.

Wasn't that an April Fool's Joke?
I atleast read from multiple places that it was an April Fool's Joke.

Valve in many cases has been rather cool people when it comes to private made Mods. They ain't whiny possessive girls like EA or Lucasarts. I'm looking forward to BM myself. As far as Gordon Freeman talking? I think you are thinking of Freeman's Mind, from Machinima.com. I find those vids hilarious but I don't see BM giving Freeman a voice. Gordon keeps his thoughts to himself, though I imagine they would sound more like Nodwick ( http://nodwick.humor.gamespy.com/index.htm ). Maybe when the G-Man leaves the poor guy alone, he'll open up.

How do you know it wont be avaible in Steam? Valve has put numerous mods in Steam. And if they really dont need to worry with people downloading Black Mesa instead of buying HL1. HL has already sold over 11 million units. There was a time that HL was selling cheaper than bottles of water.

And people need to have a source game with the OB engine meaning Valve is making money already.

Its necessary for the mod makers. :p If they pull it off its something they can include on their curriculum and get into professional gaming developers.

Oh no, he's hilarious, just the voice gets kinda annoying after awhile.
