Yes its another of these topics, Im a big fan of the films and after seeing some of the artwork and learning of Mignolas love of mythology it seems like it would be my type of thing, unfortunately as always with newcomers Ive no idea where to start.

And so I was hoping that somebody could point in the direction of a good story to start with?

Cheers for any help you can give.

Frankly, get it all. Start with the beginning of the series and work your way up, without rushing. It is amazing, all of it, but you'll greatly benefit from reading it in chronological order.

EDIT: since I've got way too many Hellboy titles and they are not very neatly organized, use this reference here, it is quite helpful:

As another hellboy fan, I'll say that a lot of what makes the stories good are that they're self contained mysteries. But I guess you could just buy the collections in order. Also try Hellboy/Beasts of Burden, where hellboy helps a team of talking dogs and cats stop a witch from releasing her Golem boyfriend on the countryside. It's really cute.

my first book was vol 7 and I wasn't lost.

So go with the big "volume" books? Turns out you can get them for peanuts on amazon.

Cheers.
