I have two controller where both of the left sticks are suffering from stick - my old one gets stuck full forward on without reseting to the center and my current one is sticking slightly left without centering

This of course makes moving in games a pain in the ass now since I end up moving without touching the controller at that point.

Does anyone know a way to fix this? (would rather find out if it's possible before opening it up first)

EDIT: fixed one of the controllers - read below post #15

:D Buy a new one!

Apparently, silicone spray is useful. It acts as a fast drying lube.
I've never seen it for sale here, but maybe it's more commonplace in other countries like the US or the UK.

Ponder on how N64 owners managed back in the day?

Seriously, I haven't seen a single N64 control pad where the stick isn't floppier than an erectile dysfunction sufferer's wang at an ugly convention.

My original Xbox controller sticks sometimes do this. Often when I start up a game one of the sticks will go off in a certain direction for a while, before settling down. Also if you rest a thumb on one of the control sticks, sometimes your character can suddenly run off in a direction, though this is often hilarious.

Yeah the moving left thing was semi-amusing... till it made me run off a tower that took me like 20mins to climb in Crackdown 2. Profanaties may have been used

I just remember the Arbiter randomly plummeting to his death over the ledge at the beginning of his first mission.

both my controllers steer slightly to the left on the right stick.. it's annoying when aiming in any shooters.

It doesn't happen always though. Sometimes after using the stick in any way, it keeps steering to the left until I move it again. I guess it's something with the contact?

Open it up and see if there's any gunk in the thumbstick mechanisms or in the contacts. Electraclean is your friend. Also visually inspect the thumbstick mechanism itself, see if the springs are a little wonky or if there's anything loose.

If you don't find anything there, then it's new controller time. Use your old controller to learn how to mod them. :D I've got to get a new one so I went to town on my old controller so that I'd know what to expect when I paint up my new one. I'm gonna be shooting for a Capcomish blue/yellow colour scheme on it. :D

Tried doing this but screws are a pain in the ass shape so just ruined a couple of small screwdrivers there

I think they're Torx screws, I'd have to look and double check. Companies like to use them to keep people from fiddling with their electronics and what not since most people have never even heard of em. You can pick up the appropriate screwdrivers for em for cheap though. They cost the same as any other regular screwdriver. I've got a 10 in one screw driver that has a few torx heads on them that comes in really handy when doing this sort of work. I personally think that any gamer should have a few of em laying around for moments just like this since they're becoming increasingly common.

PS: If it's an asterix sorta shape with a little nub in the center it's the tamper proof design of torx and you'll have to special order those unless you've got a really well stocked hardware store nearby.

Yeah I looked around and found out designed for these controllers that was a mere £1.50, when I get it I shall see what I can do with the controllers then post my results here.

Okay so did some tinkering with both controllers and managed to fix the one that had the left stick the stuck upwards all the time.

After opening it up and cleaning it out (MUCH needed) I found that it still misfunctioned when put back in the controller's shell yet it was fine when the shell was off. Way to get around this is to loosen the the top two screws closest to and on the side of the controller with the faulty stick. This gives it more slack to move and stopped it from sticking on the shell for me.

However the controller that sticks slightly left still remains unfixed after much tinkering - so guessing the internal part is slightly off.

Anyway bottom line is loosen screws near the stick, see if that helps and if it doesn't then go inside it for some cleaning etc.

Screwdriver needed - http://www.google.co.uk/#hl=en&source=hp&q=torx+t8+security+screwdriver&aq=0&aqi=g6&aql=&oq=torx+t8+se&gs_rfai=&fp=4decbba4b4ffde8d
