My brethren and...uhh...sistren, I have felt the fickle hand of fate tap me on the shoulder. My xbox360, Clarisse has died. I started her up this morning and nothing happened. I got power, but there was no picture or sound. So, I checked her AV plugs and everything seemed to be fine.

I then decided to try a different TV set to see if anything was wrong with my TV. Maybe. I played and got audio, but no visual. So, frustrated, I went to the store to buy some new AV plugs. All they had were HD composite plugs but these should work fine (I have a hi def TV), but still nothing doing. So because my xbox360 isn't under warranty, it's going to cost $150 for Microsoft to repair the problem. But I get the feeling in the pit of my stomach that this is the final straw for Clarisse. She's dead, deceased, no more...you get the picture.

So, I have two questions for you to ponder.

1. Has anyone else been through this, and how did you deal with the sense of loss?
2. Don't suppose anyone knows what the problem is do they? And how to fix it?

I've lost Jessie (my 360) only once and she was still under warenty. Aparently it was a faul that only occured in certain 360's sold at a certian time. The problems have all been fixed now. Still, they did extend their warenty because of the fault. It must have been a while back when you bought it.

Yeah, about two years. Unfortunately the extended warranty that Microsoft offered a while back was for the red ring problem only. I also have no idea where my proof of purchase is.

2.: I once had a problem with my VGA Cable. No picture. I tried to connect the console to a regular television, and it worked...reconnected VGA, worked too...miraculously. But then i had a RRoD shortly afterwards.

1.: As said, my Xbox (...dunno...Whitey?) had a RRoD just before Christmas. Very painful, as i looked forward to play through pretty much all of the Winter Games of the 360. And of course, it was delivered back in the first week of January, just when i had to get back to work again.

During that time, i spend most of my time with Aquaria and Carcassonne (the actual Board Game)...but it was still the worst time imaginable. (EDIT: In terms of "time to have a broken Xbox". Not "Worst Time of my Life" I may be an addict, but it wasn't THAT bad ^^)

So it's not the red ring ordeal. Well in that case I have no clue of what the hell is going on. Still $150 isn't as much as buying a complete new system if worse comes to worse.

Rofl thats my nickname. Its not racist, in my friend circle we have a million chris' so we call each other by catchy versions of our last names.

My loyal 360 Maria will never break on me. my old xbox on the other hand (......uhhhhh, blacky :D) would break down constantly.

For your problem try using a friends TV or their cables to test that the problem isn't with your TV or cords. If you do find that the cables are the problem then you could get some cables off ebay for cheap second hand prices, or pay microsft the $150 bucks.

Or God forbid, buy a new HDTV.

That's not enough! You have to glue a poster of Malcom X and Martin Luther King Jr. on it and pray 46 times in front of it every day for the rest of your life. Only then can you be forgiven.

Why 46?

Also, i'll never pray to Martin Luther King unless Germany gets to celebrate Martin Luther King Day!

(God, i could go on with this all day...and i probably will!)

A friend of mine bought a 360 which didn't work, traded it in at the same store for another that didn't work then traded in again and he got one that finally worked. I believe that one eventually broke and he had to send it in for repairs or replacement.

My brother's first 360 stopped reading discs, the next two had hardware errors so he lost all his saved information and the last one before this one stopped working with HDTV or something like that so he had to get another new one.

Based on these experiences I have chosen not to buy a 360 for myself and don't really feel bothered by that decision.

Well, I've never faced this problem because my computer, Chigurh (anyone catch the reference?) doesn't have this sort of problem. I'm sorry, but I'm not a 360 gamer, and I can offer no consolation.

Except that you can you the computer you are typing on to game.

First thing's first, what's with the naming of the consoles?

I get the reference to No Country for Old Men; I'm guessing you hope your computer embodies the same qualities as that efficient killer.

And finally, does anyone else find it odd that Hey Joe's Xbox 360 shares its name with a one Clarisse Starling of Silence of the Lambs? If that was intentional, consider me creeped out.

My Xbox, who ironically is named "Xbox", I've had for almost 2 years now has never given my any problems.
