Aren't bonuses supposed to be a reward for successful/profitable work?

Why the hell did they get bonuses in the first place?

In America they would have inflated those bonuses to ridiculously high numbers, fired off everyone, liquidated their assets, and called it a day. At least in Japan they seem to care a bit more about the survival of the company rather than their own personal wealth.

Of course, that's not even getting into the fact that a 'bonus' is something that should come when you're doing well... not something that just happens all the time.

Those crazy Japanese with their ethics and honour. Don't they know the real way CEOs operate is by posting a loss, cutting jobs then paying themselves a bonus large enough to have employed those very jobs they cut 4 times over?
Yep. If you ever need some proof of just how different the cultures are, stuff like this is a pretty good example. You never hear about this sort of stuff happening with major American companies and CEO's. Then again, they also tend to get paid so god damn much that even if the company goes under they'd never have to work again, so where's the incentive to actually succeed?

This is what is supposed to happen, rather than layoffs. Granted I don't know what goes on at the top of giant game companies but it's good to see Hirai setting an example for the rest of the execs, and getting them to follow suit.

They should lose there bonus.....they failed. Sony is expensive though their products are not great compared to other companies. They still believe in the Sony brand and charge for that name. Bit the retail electronics industry is different now.

Is this the end of PS5? I think SOny might stop console making after the PS4. They should let MS spend money making a console and just make tons of cash making games for the MS system and allow millions of gamers to play the games. Im sure (though dont know the figures) Sega has prospered from getting out of the console industry.
Sony might have lost a lot of ground to Apple and Samsung in the mobile market, but isn't the PS3 profitable for them? Why would they get rid of the profitable bit of their company?

and yet people will still say they're evil bastards.

At least they didnt take the bonuses, they definitely could of and for the people who say "well they hsouldnt get a bonus" no they shouldnt, but when youre at that level and you can decide to or not, it really speaks to your character when you decide you wont. and i know "money will never change me" yeah thats a nice thought.

Ah Japan, where roaming tentacles seek out women in schoolgirl uniforms, pants come from vending machines and Executives aren't total shits. It's like bizarro-world but on Earth. Now if only the West would follow in their footsteps and stop firing people further down the ladder instead of just giving themselves even more money and laughing at the poor folk.

On a slightly related note, if Sony did really badly would Kaz perform seppuku? Not that I'm demanding blood but I'm curious as to what it would take for an Exec to disembowel themselves.
Seppuku is specific to the Samurai class and involves a ritual. For a business exec, they just commit regular suicide.

Happy to see that Sony remains the lesser of three evils. One is wrapped up in a childish haze as it nose dives into oblivion and the other is an American cooperation that considers games an afterthought (BUY SOME FUCKING PIZZA).

Captcha: Dust Bunny, or what's inside Sony's bank account.

I don't know if I want to see Sony die or not.

On one hand they're as bad as the worst tech/software/producers out there, but on the other hand, I don't want Microsoft to completely own the games market.

I guess we'll see.

That sucks. Sony has some shitty business practices (proprietary stuff for their electronics) but I least their stuff is reliable. My parents bought a 35 inch Sony tv 30 years ago when it was the biggest size available and thing worked for about 25 years

God no. The last thing I want is to get constantly ass fucked by Microsoft charging to access the Internet, throwing advertisements on their user's home screen and justifying it by making apps that let you order fucking pizza with kinect. I'll buy a Wii U or a gaming pc before that
