'Lost' achievements as I call them are 360 achievements that you cannot ever get anymore due to them being old or online based in dead servers. A recent game i owned that hade this issue was Beautiful Katamari which required a lot of online matches and work, yet in many days straight, no one was online.

So, do you think Microsoft and developers should address these 'lost' achievements, have some other method like changing criteria for them or just leave them be?

I dunno. Achievements seem pointless anyway, especially when you get to achievement whoring, and come to think of it, the only 360 achievement I've attempted to get on purpose so far is one on Fable 2 that called for me to shoot the weapons out of a Hollow Man's Hands before removing it's head.

I can sympathise with you on this one, GRAW is another bad one for it. It would be nice if they could be achieved offline too but to be honest I don't think anything will happen.

While Achievements sometimes enhances the games (Like the "inspirational" Achievements of Dead Rising or some of the new Prince of Persia that add some optional challenges to the regular Game), they are mostly just an indicator if someone has too much time or too much money to spend.

Since the Gamerpoints are useless, Microsoft is better off adressing real issues of thier Products...

I think online achievements in general is bunk. Why would killing ten thousand people in online matches be an achievement? There are too many achievements like that in games overall. We need more achievements that are fun to get, and/or harder to pull off.
There is a couple of achievements in Trials HD which is perfect. You have to go out of your way to find some hidden things. That is not how you would normally play that game. Then you have the one where you need to beat all the extreme tracks. Now that is a real achievement, because it is hard as hell.

So I hope more developers put in fun achievements. Things you won't necessarily do anyway. Or things that are hard, but not impossible. Not that gamerscore is that important, but I think achievements add an extra reason to have fun with the game. And I have more fun with games now, even after I beat them. 'cause now I can check the list, and see what I can do to get it. It is simply an extra challenge in the game.

I haven't been able to play it on live except for 1 time since the game was given to me by my cousin.

I have that problem with Mercs2 for PS3. Alot of me friends play it but the online support it beyond awful and I get about 1 game for every 20 tries so I cant stay in long enough to get the online trophies. And i'm not the only one with the problem either.

So i've given up on that broken game :)

Is it worth getting if you don't have gold? I been wondering whether or not to get it for a while.
Anyway, most of the multiplayer achievements for all my games since I don't have gold.

Well its a fun game if thats what you mean, it has bots so its not as bad as getting Halo without gold. Also you can still get most of the achievements because theres only a handfull that require online play.

While I have had alot of fun getting trophies on the PSN (Achievements for the 360), in reality, it really means nothing, apart from an extra challenge and a way for Developers to get you to play your games longer.

Honestly, I enjoy getting the little popup telling you that achievements have been unlocked. Especially after I've carted a fucking concrete gnome across 6 fucking levels, including two fucking vehicle sections and a shootout with a fucking helicopter, just to dump him in a rocket.

You're right, how could I be so inconsiderate? Man, what kind of a horrible monster am I, seeking out the children, the future generations, the ones who will make a difference, solve all our problems, cure AIDS Cancer and set up colonies on Mars. I should have considered his feelings and needs first. You're all a bunch of sensitive and special little flowers, unique snowflakes who require constant esteem boosts to ensure your ego balloon isn't deflated by the mean people of the world. There there, I'm sure your mummies still love you all and will give you big hugs and remind you how you're all going to grow up to be doctors and scientists and the President of the Future. Don't worry, despite what the movies, TV and the internet say, Reality is actually a warm and fuzzy place, full of flowers and leprechauns and candy trees, where everybody dances around, smiling and singing and being happy all day long. Nothing bad ever happens and everybody lives in harmony.

I think Microsoft should make it mandatory for achievements to be offline only. Some games are ridiculous in the sheer grinding required to get 10 points (Hi there Gears of War!). Just make all achievements offline, problem solved.

Also, the concrete gnome...?
I have no idea what game you're referring to. Please enlighten?

It's an achievement in one of the HL2 games. There's a garden gnome at some point, and you have to can pick him up and cart him around for an hour and a half. Then, once you get to the part where you launch a rocket into space, you put the gnome into the hatch.

Little Rocket Man. Orange Box achievement, in HL2, Ep2, Man3.

Sounds simple enough, until you remember that while you're carrying an object, you're not carrying weapons and the vehicles aren't designed to hold objects.

It's an exercise in frustration, but at the same time, it's not overwhelming. If you're pedantic and OCD enough, you can do it.

I'd vote against myself receiving that award. I don't think I poured enough liquid sarcasm into it. I'm my own harshest critic.

Hahaha, that's awesome. I always wondered how to get that achievement!
I might go it now, just for bragging rights and an extra challenge.
As much as I love them, all the half-life games have been too easy, even on the hardest settings.

Not sure if this counts, but my brother was going through COD4 with cheats on, and forgot to turn them off before he picked up the final laptop he needed. Now he can't get the achievment.

Anyway, I believe you should unlock special in-game things for achievments. Like the skill points from the Jak and Daxter series, Ratchet and Clank series, and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.
