I like to think that the Escapist features a wide selection of nationalities besides the majority of English speaking nations.

So I wondered, is there anything in your native language that sounds offensive in English, or visa versa?
I came across this while a mature language filter blocked a normal Dutch word because it sounds like a English curse word.

You see, the Dutch version of 'You can take a left' is 'jij kunt hier links'
'kunt' is pronounced almost the same as the English derogatory term for the female sex organ.

Then there is the Dutch word for Shower. which is derived from it's French translation. Douche.
Do you have any experiences with such words?

The latin "vagina" (pronounced WA-gee-nah) means scabbard.

Presumably, the origin of its current use.

Not sure how many thai people there are her but an old work collegue of mine from Thailand told me that the swedish word "lakan"(wich means bedsheets in swedish) means "to fuck" in thai.

As for english the swedish word for "end" is "slut". Its pronounced more like sl-uuh-t though.

I've heard that the Norwegian word "pule" which means fuck(verb), is the same as the Swedish word for "clean/tidy"(verb).

Edit: I can't think of any that would sound dirty in English though.

Edit: Finally! I've been looking for this strip for half an hour now...

Panel 1: Sort of tired today. Fucked around all day, yesterday.
Panel 2: Fucked a little in the living room, did some fucking in the kitchen drawers, fucked a bit out in the garden...
Panel 3: I mean, it's nice to fuck, but it can be a bit too much when you're just fucking all day long, right.
Panel 4: (In Swedish) ...Sure does.
