I think it's fair to say that compared to the PS2 and Xbox, the GameCube didn't get the best Games.

However, it did get two great ones! It looks like I'm the only one who remembers them!

Cover Art below.

The Games where 'Lost Kingdoms' and the sequel 'Lost kingdoms II' a year later.

The first game focuses on the main character Katia, the story involves an evil black fog consuming the lands and her father venturing out to stop it, he goes missing and Katia goes looking for him and to try and help, she brings with the family's magic Rune Stone that gives her the power to summon monsters via cards to fight by her side. (Over 100 cards/Monsters)

These Cards have for elements, Fire, Water, Earth, wood and neutral, the all have strength a weakness, bar neutral.

There are also various different types of cards that you can use such as 'attack' where basically the monster will appear for a brief second do an attack and leave.

There are 'independent' cards, these act exactly like the enemy monsters in the game only they fight by Katia's side.

Finally, there are 'Summons' cards, a summons-type card is a card that will temporarily replace Katia with the summoned monster. This monster will then attack. Most summons-type cards can only be used once. Once the monster's attack is complete, it will disappear and Katia will reappear.

A nice feature is that you can capture enemy monsters in your cards, you do this by using a capture card on one, it does little damage but if it's enough to finish the monster off, it's yours too keep!

When the Sequel was released a year later 'Lost Kingdoms II' there was plenty of changes/Tweaks/Improvements.

The story is basically Generations after the events of Lost Kingdoms; Katia is now remembered as a legendary queen. The heroine of this story is Tara Grimface, a reserved member of a guild of thieves, who is trying to find her way through a dangerous world. While she is an outcast even among her allies, they respect and fear her because she possesses a True Rune stone that allows Tara to use powerful magic cards in battle.

It retains all of the Cards/Monsters from the first game but adds on an extra 100, there is also an extra element 'Mechanical'

Here some game play!

Anyway, I didnt spend all this time making thread just to talk about the game, I Urge you to buy it. You can get both for 15 Quid of Play.com and i cant think of a better buy for a Gamecube or a Wii Even!

These Games are seriously hidden gems! Anyone else remember them?

Edit: and for the sake of discussion, Whats your hidden Gem?

I played Lost Kingdoms when it was released but not the sequel. It was an enjoyable and fairly unique game, pretty challenging in places as well.

Id recoment the sequel! Its actually a big better, Instead of running into battles Monsters roam the map, which is nice.

Plus if you still have your save file you can load all your cards from LK to LKII.

And it was great, I picked it up by accident when I saw it cheap in a shop, and I loved it.

Well, I've looked around to rebuy it after my last one broke (due to over playing, probably), although I know you can pick it up on steam for £6 or so.

The only game for the Gamecube that really stands out to me as a little "hidden gem" is Eternal Darkness.

The gameplay wasn't great, but the unique game mechanic really made it stand out for me and make the game very entertaining.

Here's a pretty good description from wikipedia:

[spoiler/]"The game's standout concept, patented by Nintendo, is the "sanity meter", a green bar on screen which is depleted under various conditions, generally when the character is seen by an enemy. It can be restored under various conditions, such as performing a "finishing move" on an enemy. As the bar becomes low, various effects occur, reflecting the character's slackening grip on reality. If the bar remains empty, further damage to sanity decreases the player character's health.
One effect which is consistently used is a skewed camera angle accompanied by whispers, cries, and other noises. The lower the sanity meter, the more skewed the camera angle and the louder the sound effects. Fourth wall breaking effects include simulated errors and anomalies of the TV or GameCube; this does not affect gameplay unless the player misconstrues them as actual technical malfunctions.
There are many different sanity effects, the length they last depends on each effect, and not all effects will necessarily be encountered during a given run through the game. A few more commonplace examples include:
Sounds, such as footsteps, women and children screaming, doors slamming, the rattling of chains and the sound of a blade being sharpened.
The player character finds him/herself walking upon the ceiling after entering a new room.
Walls and ceilings bleeding. Attacking them causes more effusion.
The volume is lowered, accompanied by a fake television volume indicator on the screen.
Appearance of large numbers of monsters that are not really there, and disappear when attacked.
Some sanity effects are character-specific and reflect the individual's personal fears or experiences. When the sanity effect is finished, everything goes back to normal and the character often utters a panicked statement saying, "This can't be happening!""[/spoiler]
