So, it was talked about quite a bit in another thread, so I figured it deserved it's own.

It should be obvious I am a fan, but what about you? It's a shame it hasn't had a PS3 release, this is a truly deserving JRPG that needs as much exposure as it can get. It isn't a perfect game, but it's not mediocre (like Enchanted Arms), it isn't child's play (like Blue Dragon) and it's definitely one of the best voice acted games this generation, if not ever.

Anyone who's played an rpg of any variety will be right at home with this game, which doesn't seek to push the envelope, but challenges you to not take your supportive skills for granted. The first few boss fights were a pain in the ass, and that never happens in rpgs. Unfortunately, from there the bosses aren't challenging, even the final one, which was a complete joke and basically scripted. New game plus has your immortals at level 50 so you can fly through the game, enjoying the story all over.

Now, story. If you're sick of emo spiky haired adolescence, but still want your emo, your main character here is a brooding emo with smooth hair and very much an adult. In fact most of the cast are adults, the exception being two children. A review I read some time ago described this as a game not about story, but characters, and I absolutely agree. The story is your typical save-the-world-from-the-big-bad-man, but the characters are what make this one special. Each person has a damn good reason to be in the party, and their interactions are both touching and amusing. They grow, they learn lessons and some learn to like themselves a little more. Of course, for me it was all about Jansen. You either love him or loath him. Of all the characters he experienced the most growth and had the most obvious character arc.

In closing, if you love JRPGs and have an Xbox360, at least rent the game and give it a shot. If you find you enjoy it, you will easily be able to buy this for cheap for the time its been out.

And if you have played the game, I'd love to hear your musings and oppinions.

Good game athough obnoxious at times, the combination of massive environmental puzzles that require shitloads of backtracking and random encounters is enough to drive you insane sometimes. But it had a very epic story, lots of awesome encounters (the sea invasion being the highlight imho) and well done characters, I also found most of the Memory stories absolutely gorgeous, I actually read them all and I don't usually do that. It does need patience to bear through the shittiness without quitting though for sure.

I played up till the end of disc one and quit because the kids' voices were annoying me too much.

When I placing those seal thingys (it was quite a while ago so forgive me if I miss details) in the garden bit in the middle. I put a seal in the wrong place and couldn't get it out again.

They can be removed. Stand over the seal and it will give you the option to remove or replace it.

Good game, got to the final dungeon, then just kinda blanked because I'd seen all of the dream sequences. Dream sequences were so kickass. Going to start from scratch and ACTUALLY finish it this time. Once I'm done with Blue Dragon. Which has good battle system, sucky plot. Full opposite of LO.

I loved the difficulty of the first two bosses. I was completely unprepared for them and I got completely steam-rolled, which would ordinarily annoy me, but I only had to use a few tactics and they went down as well as any other boss. Unfortunately, there were few other challenging bosses; even many of the optional bosses were fairly easy. And the last boss... My, my, my.

I also found that later in the game (I lie, I noticed this very early on but it is far more apparent as you progress) the mortal characters pale in comparison to the immortals, to the extent that there is little point in using them. Also, the sheer number of skills you could fit onto an immortal made them very, very destructive.

I think the thing I hated most were the annoying kids. Why is it that most games manage to make me hate their kid characters?

Even the final battle had you dismiss the mortals in favour of an immortal-only battle. The mortals were only existed for harvesting, and the occasional situation you were forced to use them. Of all the mortals I levelled Mack the most since he was necessary for the Temple of Enlightenment boss.

One thing about the kids: I agree with most people that Cooke had an annoying, over the top voice, but do we really have to do apply this same hatred to Mack? :/ The kid rarely spoke, and when he did he was quiet and polite. I felt sorry for him. When Cooke wasn't kicking Jansen's ass (literally), she was beating on poor Mack.

It was a pretty good game, better than what I expected from a JRPG, but I borrowed it from a friend. I played til I found some enemies I couldn't beat, then I did what I usually do and stopped playing for a while so I could pick it up fresh later, but my friend took it back and sold it so I never got to finish.

Great game - one of my favorites for Xbox 360.
It had some up and downs in the game, but I realize that I enjoyed pretty much all of it. The characters were really well-made, and Jansen...well Jansen is one of my favorite characters and I feel his character progressed amazingly.

The kids sometimes ruined the moment for me with their whiny voice, though, but they start to grow on you (at least they did on me).

Lost Odyssey also made me tolerate JRPGs a bit more.

Jansen was the best of the mortals, since he could equip two accessories and get doublecast natively, you could make him almost as good a caster as Ming and Sarah, and since magic was overwhelmingly more powerful than physical attacks in LO, that was a good thing.
