So, on Boxing Day, I got another load of presents - and among these was the special edition game mentioned in the title (which contained a bonus disc and a "the art of" book). My sequence of reactions went as such:
"Hmm, the box art looks cool. Oh look, there's a mecha on the back!"
"Wow, the art style in this book looks great. These Akrid things are cool."
"Well, the opening cutscene was a bit cheesy, but the gameplay is quite interesting. Refreshingly different to what I'm used to, as well."
"This game is great! Why haven't I heard of it before?"
So far, I'm enjoying this much more than the other of my 3 birthday games I've tried, BF:BC2 - and yes, I have tried its multiplayer. It feels kind of old school, what with nerve-wracking and very difficult boss fights at the end of each level - which I quite like. The mechs are very nice (though I wish you got to drive them a bit more), but the standard ground combat is perfectly good as well. It's perhaps a bit linear so far, but the Anchor (basically a rappelling line) opens up some options.
EDIT (Posted too soon, gah): Anyone else here played this? What are your thoughts? Is the multiplayer any good? How about the sequel?
