My most recent (and memorable) ex, I met on the internet, and for the longest time we were just an internet couple, and I have to admit that we did love each other very much. That only lasted about three years though, and by then we'd been with in each other in person for quite a long time. *shrug*
True love is impossible to define because I don't think it exists, least of all online. But it sure as hell comes close.

Oh I would certainly say it's possible, having experienced it a few times. Whether it's possible for it to succeed or not is another matter. I don't really know, it's never worked out for me.

Rooster Teeth (Red vs Blue) is a big community website, and I know of three marriages that have happened because of it. Yes, it happens.

I somewhat hope so. The only girl to ever claim feelings for me has been over the internet. Sadly the impoersonal-ness of the internet does not allow me to get in the mood to return feelings. Actually others have claimed over the internet, but I didn't believe them since they barely know me. It's weird how everyone that ahs claimed has been damaged in someway. This one, the only consistent one, is an annorexic, self harming, twice rape victim, that one got pregnant etc. Her life sounds like a soap opera, and I've never heard her voice, so she may jsut be some old guy who's been trolling me for 2 years.

All the great mmorpg marriages aside, that boom of sites like e-harmony a few years back wouldn't have happened if they didn't work some of the time.

Though I'm going to posit that love is based on understanding, and the internet makes lying extremely easy.

Absolutely, I know this from personal experience...people often show their truer selves online and given enough time you can have a very deep and personal attachment.

I should note that my experience stemmed from a game...and not some online relationship website where people are more likely to lie in order to make themselves appear like more than they are.

I met one of my ex girlfriends on the web turned out she only lived a few miles away we had a fruitful relationship for about 8 months, but all good things must come to an end but we still talk to this day and she's still bloody gorgeous damn.

So my fellow escapees do you think it's possible to fall in love with someone on the internet? Or fancy someone? Or do you think it's all down to lust?

Any romance stories out there? :)
Umm, I don't really know if it's possible. I can't really say, I'll have a proper look through this thread later for any stories, but I just don't understand how it's possible. (Just my opinion). If anyone would like to enlighten me, that'd be great, I just don't really understand the mechanics of it.

Seeing this topic reminded me of something I read in the Daily Mail the other day

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1329250/Couple-marry-falling-love-online-game-theyd-met.html

So to answer your question, yes I think it is possible.

My girlfriend and I met on Gaia Online when we were 13/14 before we both realized it was such a horrible site.

We've been together for almost two years now.

I trust love to face to face interactions. I don't want to be a downer but I could only love online if I've met (and experienced the love) offline. Long distance relationships do not work.

It does happen.

But they're always a weird couple. Like those couples that meet on "Second Life"

Oh God....

Seeing as dating websites are more popular/mainstream these days, to me it's entirely possible to start relationships over the internet. Continuing them will obviously require physical contact though.

It's possible. I met my current girlfriend online on a forum, after all. And we're going strong after a year of awkwardly dancing around attraction and the like.

well it's possible to MEET someone on the internet. Exactly one year ago I met what looked like a really nice girl, we clicked and whatnot so she came to visit me and everything went splendidly and then a month later she hooked up with some other guy and I've been bitter ever since :(

I think it is possible. I some what fancy a girl but I doubt it will go anywhere mostly because of distance (She live all the way on the other side of the world in Indonesia.)
