Simply, what is love to you?

If you know me, you know that I think love isn't something a god created or a mental trick, to me, love is just something that's there.

This is the rest of my cheesy, emotional spiel.
To me, love is having something to fight for, having an angel to tell you that everything is alright and to be able to tell them that everything is alright, its warmth in a cold and dark world, its what gets me up every time I'm knocked on my ass. Love is something of unlimited worth and is the most precious thing across time and space.

EDIT: I need to clear the air, the kind of love I'm talking about is romantic love.

What comes before love is the one thing that motivates us all: Lust.

Nope. You're never the only one. :p

As for me.... i'm not really sure what love is. A warm feeling towards another? A special bond? A desire to spend one's time with that person and to enjoy life with them? I'd say it's all of those things, and more.

All I know... is that it is pleasant. :3

I like how Eleanor put it in BioShock 2;
"Love is just a chemical. We give it meaning by choice."

I like that partly because, to me at least, that's what it is at a basic level; a bunch of reactions going on in our noodles telling us to like particular people far more than others. The main reason I like the phrase, however, is because it saves me thinking up my own reasons, which are usually poorly structured and full of holes. Like anything I've just written after that quote, for example.

It depends what you mean by love I suppose. Do you mean love in general or romantic love? It is hard to describe, because I'm not great with words when I have to be and I don't want to wind up accidentally saying something pretentious.

Romantic love, to me, is a connection I share with my finacee. To me, it means that her happiness adds to my happiness, I want to see her succeed as much as I want myself to succeed but at the same time I don't need her to succeed in order to love her. It is not just acceptance of who she is, but being thankful for her being who she is.

I'll end this with the words from our song that explains why it is our song

"That's why, darling, it's incredible. That someone so unforgettable. Thinks that I am unforgettable too"

Love is unrequited desire. It toes the line between being a creep and a stalker, but to desire someone who despite their indifference, for me, is the purest act of Love.
Do not my eyes look into yours,
And all things thrust
Into your head, into your heart,
And weave in everlasting mystery
Invisibly, visibly, around you?
Fill your heart with this, great as it is,
And when this feeling grants you perfect bliss,
Then call it what you will--
Happiness! Heart! Love! God!
I have no name for it!
Feeling is all;

Love is being able to picture your significant other taking a crap and still want to have sex with them.

Not in the slightest.

WHAT IS LOVE, BABY DON'T HURT ME, DON'T HURT ME, NO MORE.

Fun fact: I have a Dark Souls character called Haddaway.

Love to me is a built up set of good feelings mixed with loyalty that fools many people into thinking they need the other person.

I suffer from it :p

Love is something biological, it is a feeling that makes us desire to stay with a mate, which in turn is meant to help the raising of offspring. I don't really like contrived definitions of love that make sound like something transcendental or beyond or understanding. Its a nice feeling (more or less) but it is not beyond a scientific level of understanding.

Romantic love is a disgusting, malefic cankersore on the human species. It is an abominable, grotesque, vile infestation. It is among the most foul and horrific things imaginable, a punishment which gives one the mere illusion of happiness, when really, all that exists within the emotion is pain. I believe in it the same way I believe in war, chaos and death. That it even exists in any sort of form at all is one of the most upsetting things about the human race.

Conversely, platonic love is something to strive towards, something that gives one defences against the things hiding in the darkest recesses of one's mind. It is the only sort of love I will tolerate, and the only one I feel comfortable with.
You seem to be speaking for a minority here. Do you truly believe that it would persist, let alone be elevated to such a high status, if there was nothing good about it?

Don't worry, mate. It just wouldn't be a romance/love thread without a dose of RAK-cynicism...

OT: ... many things. I'd post something deeper, but I'm... chatting... >_>

Love is a basic, primal instinct much like hate. Just pretty much the polar opposite. Both things make you insane things at times and are very powerful. One force is attraction, the other is repulsion. That's how I think of it anyway.

Steady on brother.
I get that many of the Romantics agreed with you to the effect Of Heathecliffe and Catherine in Wuthering Heights being incredibly volatile and and consumptive, but romantic love is far from illusionary. Romantic love was a literary construct which brought forth a more complex understanding of human emotions, examples abound of it enrcihing both the lives and works of many of the romantics such as that of john Keats And the Bronte sisters.

Sure there is always pain in love but such pain schools an inteligence and makes it a soul. I think you're being very harsh to a movement which was one of the few true analyses of love warts and all rather than a simple rudimentary presentation of its beauties or horrors like much of modernities texts which use the tag "romantic" in very hollow and shallow ways.

Platonic love is still love, it is a type of love. But romantic is a level at which one feels love, so hypothetically one could be Romantically platonic, after all john Keats and Fanny Braun were of such a disposition.

Romantic love is an aspiration which climbs to an imeasurable hieght, it is a love which understands that there no one wise enough to know all that is in love, for they would be thinking on it till the stars had run away and the shadows eaten the moon.

But simply Love is wonderous, it is my religon and i would die for it.

Even if unheard melodies are sweeter than those heard.

edit; i just assumed you were talking about the movement Romanticism

It's tough to say.
I would have to go with describing the feeling I get when I look at/think about/talk to/ect. It's when no matter how bad your day has gone when you look at her smile it makes everything better. When you are huddling in the cold with the power out after a storm and you can't play Arkham City or MW3, you don't care because she's their with you. And I now realize how sappy that sounds so I'm going to stop there.
