Hi,

I was wondering if there where any H.P. lovecraft fans in the escapist as I am wondering what to read next.

I just finished call of call of Cthulhu and I loved it!

I am extremely interested in the whole god and Cthulhu parts of the lovecraft mythos.

suggestions will be welcomed.

thx!

You should pick up the At the Mountains of Madness anthology. It essentially sets up a number of elements in the C'thulhu mythos and has some pretty great short stories.

Some of his longer stories I found to be almost insufferably slow, whilst a lot of his short stories are among his creepiest.

Just buy the Necronomicon. It's got basically every one of his short stories in it. A mighty fine read, which I can't be bothered to find on Amazon.

I can't consider the majority of people who wrote his mythos minus Dereleth to be noteworthy.

It doesn't have Lovecraft's stories in it, it has "entries" and "incantations" that were written by some douchebag that used Lovecraft's stories to help him write that waste of paper
I've seen this big black tome in my book store that basically was called the necromicon and promised to contain all of LOvecraft's stories. My guess the book is called that way in homage to Lovecraft himself and nothing more. Though, I suppose a quick glimrse through a few pages would reveal the true nature of the book, I don't think a book would lie about its content...
except twilight whenever there's a good review on the back.
ZING!

I just read a compilation of some of his work.I found "The Shadow Over Innsmouth" to be more exiting than the rest, and maybe even liked it better than Cthuhlu. But I have to say, I like his more poetic stories much more than his popular works- check out "The Outsider", "Celephais", and "Nyarlayhotep". Btw, someone needs to start a pole on how they pronounce some of these names.

I think they're supposed to be inpronounceable anyway.

Also, to the above post of mine. I agree that buying an omnibus is still the safest bet. Fair warning: At the mountains of madness is mind-numbingly slow.

Can't top that really.
Try to avoid the Dream Cycle, if you're interested in the 'Old Ones' part of the mythos. That stuff tends to be weird and of debatable quality. Silly man, thought he could be Dunsany..
Shadow Over Innsmouth is great.
As for short stories, I'd recommend Pickman's Model, The Music of Erich Zann and The Outsider.

Wait..You were wondering whether there were any Lovecraft fans on the Escapist??o_O

Dreams in the Witch House is really good though
My absolute favorite. Brown Jenkin creeps me the fuck out.

I've only ever heard of Lovecraft and his mind-bending mythos. I've heard more about the accompanying tabletop RPG, and its crippling difficulty. I want to read Call of Cthulhu, but I can't find it in any shops where I live, and I'm too lazy to go to Amazon.

Since you're into the Cthulhu mythos, perhaps Dagon might interest you? I haven't read any of Lovecraft's works (I will though!), so I can't be sure.

I considered "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward" and "At the Mountains of Madness" his best stories, so you might want to try those.
