First off, http://www.illuminatedlantern.com/if/games/lovecraft/ have a link of cool Lovecraft games.

Second, There are a couple lovecraft or mythos inspired games out there but it seems a largely untapped market. What would you all like to see in a horror game like this?

Well, until it turned into a fps at the end I thought it was pretty swell.

Side note, I encourage everyone to at least check out "Ecdysis" from the link I posted. It's just a text adventure, but it perfectly captures his work, I think.

I'm currently working to read most of his major works at the moment. Games will come a good deal after.

Quite a few games borrow elements from Lovecraft without actually being 'lovecraftian'. Hell, the Reapers from Mass Effect are the robotic mutant offspring of Cthulhu while Warcraft has got it's own 'ancient evils' in the form of the Old Gods who... wait for it... have names like C'thun and Yogg-Saron. Meanwhile Age of Conan has many lovecraftian influences as well, but that's only to be expected considering originally the author of Conan and Lovecraft were good friends who's work often overlapped one-anothers.

That said there are few games actually 'based' on Lovecrafts work, which is a pity, so I'm gonna have to give those a try. Thanks for the link!

ehhh.

it gets tiresome seeing games with tentacles being touted as lovecraftian.

a real lovecraftian game would make you feel meaningless in an infinte unknowable cosmos, scared because you know the terror that lies outside humanity's profoundly limited understanding, awaiting the day when men will be taught new ways to shout, kill and revel.

Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem was one of the best Lovecraft inspired games ever made and proof that the gamecube library, while the smallest, held the most classics.

Sadly, most of popular culture's understanding of Lovecraft is 'Ia Ia! Ctuhlhu Ftaghn! lololololol!'. They then proceed to treat Cthulhu like Godzilla rather than the slow subtle terrpr that he is.

Also, gamers tend to play games for power trips which is counter-intuitive for a Lovecraftian experience.

Heres a few:

Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners Of The Earth
The Penumbra Episodes (Not a directly lovecraftian game but inspired by it)
Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem
Alone In The Dark (The original)
Necronomicon: Dawn of Darkness
