Ok, so my girlfriend and I want to start gaming together. The only problem is that the only PC that she has is a Samsung Netbook. She isn't able to upgrade at the moment so we're looking for some games that her netbook can run.

As for specs of the netbook, I don't know them off the top of my head but near as I can tell, they're standard netbook fare in terms of the parts/processing/graphics capabilities.

So, can anyone make any suggestions as to what games we may be able to play? Pretty much any genre except sports is ok. Thanks ^_^

Surely you could play NeverWinter Nights on it. I mean, I'd check, but if so, you've got yourselves some old-school fun!
RTSs like age of mythology or empires, Starcraft?

Space Empires IV will run on pretty much anything. Sure it's not pretty, but it's fun, especially with the Carrier Battles mod.

Don't be fooled by Space Empires V's glitz. The UI is horrible. Besides I wouldn't trust a Netbook to have competent 3D anyway.

Stronghold Crusader (NOT Extreme) should be ok too.

A Duke Nukem source port such as EDuke32 would work. Same for Doom ports.

16-bit console emulation is another option. Some emulators have network multiplayer built-in.

Buy Civilization 2, 3, or Alpha Centauri. Brilliant 2d turn based strategy games that will keep you guys playing until the sun rises, and they run well on relatively weak hardware.

Minecraft on low settings, and maybe Dwarf Fortress could also work.

The classic rpgs, like Fallout 1 and 2, Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, Planescape: Torment, the entire Ultima series (abandonware, I think) , and The Elder Scrolls 1 and 2 (free downloads)(you might need a DOS emulator for Ultima and Elder Scrolls, like http://www.dosbox.com/) are alright RPGs.

Try running classic RTS like Starcraft, Age of Empires, Age of Mythology, Sacrifice and some other classics (I don't play many RTS)

Try Oolite, a spacesim: http://www.oolite.org/

So many ancient games that are playable using a DOS emulator, like the Elite spacesim series.

Classic FPS, like Quake and Quake III arena, Unreal and Unreal Tournament, Doom 1 and 2, wolfenstein 3d, Duke Nukem 3d, serious sam, postal 2, MDK and hopefully the first Half Life.

If you can't get any of those games, then you can always play flash or java games on the internet. Theres an mmorpg called runescape out there thats java based and might run decently. Plants vs Zombies?

Also, adventure games :-D try the king's quest, space quest, and leisure suit larry series. classics. oh and myst and zork.

There's also NetHack http://www.nethack.org/ it's a very challenging game i've played for 5 years and I haven't won yet.

You should at least be able to play Half-Life and Deus Ex without any problems...

Yes, Knights of the Old Republic should be at the top of your list. As to where you can get hold of it: http://store.steampowered.com/app/32370/?snr=1_4_4__13

Be extra careful that you don't stumble into spoilers regarding KotOR. You'll thank me.
