18 should be the golden age, if you can vote you should be able to drink.
I understand what you're saying, I just want to say something...

Isn't it incredibly ironic that one might think you should be able to intoxicate yourself if you're going to help elect the leader of the country? I think we'd be mostly fine if the age limit were lowered, but the relation of drinking and voting is just hilarious to me.
well, it's not like they're getting trashed off a 10 dollar plastic bottle of vodka in the voting booth. they just feel they can have the responsibility.

Meh like everyone has said if its 18 or 21, people are still gonna get their hands on it one way or another. Also if the age is reduced to 18 you won't have as many kids thinking they're hot shit if they're drinking underage. I think it should be 18 but thats just my two cents.

I'd have to say 18 sounds better than 21, it takes the pazza out of the whole thing, but then again I'm rather buzzed and only 16 so what do I know?

America needs to keep up with the times and lose that puritan ideal of no drinking. Lower it to 18, it obviously doesnt work and the rest of world just gets appalled at the stupidity of the law.

eh..`8 isn't bad
WHAT?!

Sorry I just had to take that typo and run with it.

It's 18 here, but a lot of people start drinking around 14 - which, depending on the person and the amount of alcohol consumed can be quite devastating, I know some people who started drinking at an early age and by doing so have had liver complications and become alcoholics
DAMN YOU TYPOS!! *shakes fist in fury*

Anyways Yea I dont see the problem with it being lowered to 18. the maturity issue with alcohol depends more on the person and not the age. There are still plenty of idiot college people I know who are of the "IM GETTIN WASTED FRIDAY!!" category. Once again I feel it must fall back on the parents to set an example and teach their kids about how not to abuse said substances and not be total dumbasses when consuming alcohol. Teach them at the right age, and also try to keep them from succumbing to the whole peer pressure BS and that will at least reduce alcohol stupidity among the younger drinkers.

Eh, I gave into peer pressure and drank early on. But it tasted like piss so I just drank two like any reasonable person would do.

My friend drank 5 and he actually drove better on halo 3...Seriously he drived better drunk then sober.

Moving on, 18=Adult stop fucking taking rights to drink away.

This is just yet another case of those who are supposed to be in authority giving in to those who thumb their nose at authority. It's the same old tired "they are going to do it anyway why not make it legal?" arguement that gets tossed out there whenever people in authority get a little more lazy and apathetic and want to make things easier for themselves. They don't stop to think about the consequences. All that lowering the drinking age will do is increase the number of drunk driving accidents among teens, increase teen pregnancy because even more teens (and even younger ones) will be getting drunk at parties and going home with someone, and increase all the other bad behaviour that comes about when teens drink. If you make it legal for 18 year olds to drink then teens even younger than that will be trying to get away with it. If you think it's hard to tell if a kid is under 21, it's even hard to tell if they are 17 or 18. This will just be a big mess if it goes through.

I say raise the drinking age to 30. At least by the time most people are 30, they are beginning to settle down a bit and not so many of them are wild and crazy party animals as kids who are 18 or even 21 are. I bet the alcohol companies and bar and liquor store owners are behind this too as they'll sell a lot more alcohol if 18 year olds can drink legally. The drinking age was raised up from 18 to 21 for a reason and that reason hasn't gone away.

Come on. Everyone who says as soon as it's lowered to 18, people will get slammed and pissed off their faces, no! No they will not! 18 is fine. People at 18 are mature. You get dickheads and idiots that will, but then again, those same dickheads will turn up 3 years later and do the same thing. People at 18 are not going to suddenly go on any drunken rampage. I know 15,16 year olds who are so mature I've mistaken their ages.

Because alcohol turns people into sexcrazed idiots that jump into cars and drive into little old ladies. Right. Why don't you ban fun while you're at it. People loose eyes while having fun. No, ban cars too! So many road accedents every day globaly. Ban 'em all! Why don't we go one step further so nowone will ever die to anything other then old age, tie everyone up in stright jakets and throw them into a mental ward with padded walls only feed through drips so they can't choke. Problem solved! The world is saved facist!

HELL YEAH! Sing it brother!
I hate people they just shout out about crap when it's dangerous. Everything is dangerous! I could choke on a banana, would you ban those too. We are so restricted because of this. We can't skateboard or ride bikes in certain areas, we can't walk the dog in others. Where is it going to end. I say fuck cencorship! Let Darwin rule!

well that's more of a question for the board of mental health. i personally think that a trained, intelligent gun owner is better than a weapon-phobe. who's better off in an emergency?
Someone who can think their way out of the situation. Or better yet, avoid the situation entirely.

Darwin, DOES rule, and people are idiots if they think it(yes IT) doesn't. Personally, the "won't someone please think of the children" attitude is tiresome because solutions are invented out of popular opinion, not 'the facts'. The real question is WHY are kids under 18 drinking? IF someone has an answer then they should be smart enough to figure out a solution. Personally I don't give a rats, it's 18 here, I went to highschool with a bunch of drunks from about 14, so whatever garbage solution someone proposes wont fix the problem because they just made a bunch of arbitrary decisions about which course of action to take without doing the legwork. The vox populi can SHOVE IT.

You might want to try the idea someone had in Finland, our drinking age is both 18 and 21.

How's that you say, well let me tell you. When you turn 18, you can buy any alcoholic beverage from the store that has less than 20% alcohol, so beer, wine and some liqours are okay. You still can go to a bar and order up a drink that has any amount of alcohol. When you turn 21, you can buy anything from the stores. Point being, that in a bar, the staff will pretty much look after you and call for help if needed, but when you drink alone, you don't drink as heavy stuff.

I'll just remind you, that here we have a goverment monopoly on alcohol retail. Only beer and cider with alcohol procent of less than 8 is allowed to be sold in grocery stores. All other drinks are sold in Alko stores, which are owned by the goverment. The idea behind this is that this way the quality can be monitored, and to prevent the sale for people who are very intoxicated.

PS. This doesn't really work as well as it should, we start drinking around the age of 13 or 14. Finnish people drink the most alcohol per capita in the world. Our drinking culture is all about you getting hammered on spirits. Our "national drink" is Koskenkorva, tasteless 38% spirit, which is consumed in enormous amounts.
