what the holy FUCK?!! this man would be beaten to death with batons if he even suggested this bullshit now that this series really has a massive cult following(I'm not sure how big it was in the 70's) oh god there is so much about this idiotic film adaptation that makes me want to scream

David Lynch's movies was an ABOMINATION (pun intended for fans of the series), case in point being "would you like me to adjust your weirding module Muad dib?" Everyone who ever read the books asked the same question; WTF is a weirding module and what is it doing in my dune universe?!

The miniseries was a step in the right direction but just seemed to be absent of luster. Albeit it was a made for tv miniseries so most can be forgiven.

If you want to see Dune on the silver screen that bad it was already made, and handsomely popular, they just re-titled it AVATAR

Many movies are directly inspired by the Dune novels. to name a few The Matrix, Event Horizen, STAR WARS ANYONE!?
what about the whole poison thing with Thufir Howat(cat wired to a rat to produce antidote milk wtf?) then they never did anything with it so many other plot points hinted at or outright used then nothing made of them later

I wonder if ludicrously ridiculous is the only way to do Dune well. To bad it never happened, too bad some of the others did, though truth be told I thought the David Lynch adaptation was okay, and the SyFy series was pretty unmemorable.

I reckon if they ever make a successful Dune production splitting it into two or three movies is the best way to go. After seeing Lord of the Rings done - although much was change and even more was excluded from the books, I still think it was a good production that captured much of the books charm. I would say if they can do it with LoTR then they sure can do it with the original Dune. When sci-fi cinema becomes the hype again I'm sure we'll see a proper transliteration of Dune on the silver screen.

Dune is probably my all-time favorite sci-fi book series. David Lynch's attempt at adapting it into a movie was, while unintentionally hilarious and memetic in its own right, absolutely terrible. His decisions to abridge the material and take a number of creative liberties did not help in the slightest. Quite frankly, I just don't think that it's possible to adapt it without butchering it as Lynch did. Given this guy's ideas, I'm very, very glad that the whole thing crashed and burned.

But at least Lynch's Dune brought forth this gem...
That was funny.. thanks for sharing...

Oh and Dune.. ya.. well it is crazy sci-fi..

2000 miniseries is the closest we have ever come to a good adaptation. The politics and religion didn't come in as much as the book
the whole, "we created their religion so we could exploit them in the future part
but covered a whole lot more than the Lynch movie
