Seriously though, most of the musicians in death metal bands are skilled, but they're putting those skills to waste.

On topic Some bands it could matter less for others Iron Maiden to be specific would be much less without lyrics.

I enjoy both. I don't have a preference over one since it depends on the variables of the song. If you count numbers, more of the songs I listen to have lyrics. But that doesn't neccessarilly mean I like them better. They're just more abundant in some of my genres like thrash metal, trip-hop and hip-hop. Others like progressive rock and house have a mix.

Notable songs with no lyrics:Great Gig in the Sky by Pink Floyd and Clarre Tony and Voyager by Daft Punk. I'm including Clarre Tony because she did the singing. Or whatever you call it >.>.

I personally can't listen to instrumentals. The stuff just ends up as background noise to me and all that does is bore me.

I find music is better with lyrics, if they are good. It gives it more depth, more things to discover with the song. But some songs are great as instrumentals. Jazz in general is better without singing in my opinion.

Bad/Good is a matter of opinion. Even if you don't think it's bad, I do.

I don't think Justin Bieber is any good, so if I were to state my opinion on him i'd call him a bad singer. Of course you'd agree with this and there's nothing wrong with it because you probably don't like him either (unless you're going to say you DO like him just to try and prove me wrong). It's only because I said that I think something you do like is bad that you're up in arms.

Seriously, did you not go to school or do they just not teach you this anymore? You seem to have the mentality of a 4 year old.

Well I don't like some kinds of music but I don't say it's bad. Calling something bad just seams like a knee jerk response for an ass hole. Or someone who is just deliberately trying to make people mad. What I am trying to say is you are sounding incredibly ignorant. And if it's your opinion or not you are just coming across like you think you are better then him.

Depends on the song really. If it's fast paced and has a lot of good instruments / electronics in it, I'll listen and probably prefer a no lyrics song. Atlas Plug, Cell Dweller and Blue Stahli are some of my favourites.

I don't mind singing, but there are not a lot of voices I like today.

Lyrics are a must for me, while i love music for the sound, and some tracks with out lyrices are great, anyone who has ever listened to john Murphy's in the house n the heart from 28 days later knows this, but i love lyrics. i tend to focus on the lyrics, and they become the main part that i remember of any song. it's the reason i love bands like Seether or Breaking Ben, why i gravitate away from screamo even though i like the pace and style of the music, if the the lyrics are unintelligible i can't get into it. it's also the same reason i hate a lot of pop music. take a kesha song, ANY kesha song. the lyrics are understandable, but retarded, make little sense, and are just plain trash. I. Hate. That.

Songs without lyrics are soundtracks at best, music at the least....but do not call them SONGs.....as lyrics are a requirement for singing.

As someone who is naturally inclined to sing along to whatever is playing, I definitely prefer music with vocals. I'm a singer. That's my connection to a lot of music. I can listen to instrumentals and soundtracks, but I much prefer music with vocals.

People word things differently. You may not describe something as bad to get your point across but many people I know do and so do I.

I prefer songs without lyrics, though it depends. If they're sacrificing instrumental values for the lyrics then I don't want to listen to that song.

And I think a lot of death and trash metal songs need to die in a fire, lyrics or not, that's not music, it's randomly hitting 3-4 instruments while screaming through a puppy's anus.

You have no concept of the skill required to play death metal tracks. I mmean seriously, like it or hate it - you have to respect the technical playing.

Exactly. Just look at bands like Necrophagist and Black Dahlia Murder. But, while we're on topic, I love music with lyrics as much as I love music without it.

I mostly listen to music with Lyrics, but Ive found a few lyricless bands, and I really enjoy. It does set moods well, and is terrific for writing without being distracted.

It's an interesting point. I often get frustrated with songs that I enjoy but have bad lyrics, however there are some songs where it's all about the lyrics such as La Dispute. I just think bands and artists should make instrumental versions more readily available.

I'm a big "fan" of lyrics. That's not to say that I don't listen to instrumentals or that music doesn't matter just as much or even that bad lyrics make for a bad song. They just matter to me, I enjoy well written lyrics.

For me the important part is not necessarily about the story they tell. It's the way the words are combined, the way smaller parts form something bigger. Be it words forming a sentence or sentences forming a song. What thoughts and emotions the combinations evoke, how what's written relates to what is said and how it works in synergy with the music. Even something as the phonetics of the words matter. The explicit meaning or message of the lyrics matter less to me, I still couldn't explain to you what the meaning of some of my favorite song lyrics are, just that I like how they're written.

another thing i forgot to mention earlier, the Lyrics are just another part of the over all, the voice of the singer adds to the music, in it's own way it is an instrument. most unique instrument in the song really. case in point Gunslinger by A7x has a killer guitar solo, gave me goosebumps first time i heard it. but when i went back i noticed how his singing lead into the solo, the way he was singing was the perfect build up.

plus i get more emotion out of the singer's Voice, and the words he uses. the clearer the words and the more emotion in the voice and way to words are used, spaced out, and strung together is what i enjoy the most about a song.
